Steelers QB Kenny Pickett helped off field after apparent leg injury vs Texans
A rough day for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) has gotten worse. Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett limped off the field in the third quarter after suffering an apparent leg injury.
Pickett was immediately taken into the blue medical tent to be evaluated. After further evaluation, Pickett was ruled OUT for the remainder of the game with a knee injury. The injury occurred on a 4th-and-1 attempt with 1:16 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Pickett, trying to elude pressure from the Texans’ front, was eventually brought down by defensive end Jonathan Greenard. Greenard wrapped Pickett up and spun him to the ground for the sack. Pickett clutched his left knee after the play before medical personnel came out to the field to tend to him.
The Steelers, trailing 23-6 to the Houston Texans (2-2) with just 186 yards of offense through nearly 50 minutes of play, have turned to Mitch Trubisky under center. Prior to the injury, Pickett had completed 15-of-23 passes for 114 yards and one interception.
More questions arise for Steelers offense, Kenny Pickett
The Steelers failed to build off their best offensive performance of the season in the 23-18 Week 3 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders (1-2), in which they put up a season-high 333 yards and averaged 5.6 yards a play. In the 30-6 defeat to the Texans, Pittsburgh accumulated 225 total yards of offense and averaged only 4.0 yards per play.
Once again, questions are plentiful for offensive coordinator Matt Canada, whose seat is boiling at this point. Given the uncertainty surrounding Pickett’s injury, things could get even worse in Pittsburgh. While Trubisky gives them a veteran option with experience, he did get benched last season for Pickett, the 2022 first-round pick out of Pitt.
In seven games (five starts) last season, Trubisky threw for 1,252 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. The Steelers went 2-3 in his starts.
