I'm setting this up the night before the start of the B1G Tourney, so that everyone knows the plans, has the links, etc.

Please use the thread for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussion for the 2023 B1G Wrestling Tournament.

When:
March 4, 5:30 pm EST for Consolations, and 7:30 pm EST for Championship bracket

Where:
Crisler Center, Ann Arbor, MI

TV:
BTN coverage doesn't start until 7:30 pm EST

Video Streaming:
For subscribers, you can stream it via B1G+, starting at 5:30 pm EST.

Audio Streaming:
The radio PBP, with Jeff Byers at the mic, will be streamed for free. The pre-Session portion of the broadcast will begin at 5:10 pm EST, with the actual PBP of the matches taking place at 5:30 pm EST. You can access the audio stream at:

Team Scoring:
The best place to track the team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club web site. The link for the team scoring is:

PBP:
I hope to be available for PBP, though I may get home and be totally exhausted from reffing all day. In short, we'll see how things go. @GregPickel has indicated that he'll be covering the action (from home, not from the Crisler Center). Hopefully, several of you will also step forward and provide some PBP, or some analysis, or some comments on each match. As always, I remind you to please include the score for the match, and the team score for the dual, in your posts, or provide some context (wrestler, school, and weight class) beyond just "that's not a takedown." It also helps to give folks a heads up as to what mat a PSU wrestler will be wrestling on. You can usually get that info from Ironhead's audio PBP, from Penn State Wrestling's twitter account, or from TrackWrestling.

Just a quick check in here to bump this thread up. Consolations start at 5:30. BTN+ only. Semis at 7. BTN will carry.

Let’s hope they have better coverage tonight on btn. So far coverage is very disappointing. Should stay at least two box but they keep going to one and then parent interviews etc.

iowa still iowa. Stall stall stall to keep it close and flip the coin.

lewan took a page out of iowa playbook and lost second round. Too damn bad!!

It's like this every year for B1Gs and NCAAs. You gotta get mat view to truly enjoy it and see the PSU guys. Tonight will be dual mat view the whole time, but likely will still have interviews.

That's nothing new for Lewan...he did it all the way to the finals last year.

Steen-Medley

First period
Medley gets two takedowns and Steen is battling but the Michigan wrestler is outclassing him in the first period. He’s up 4-1 with nearly a minute of riding time. Steen did do a good job to fight off a couple of tilt attempts.

Second period
Medley down first. He escapes to 5-1. Steen shoots in on a single but it leads to a stalemate. Good shot but couldn’t finish it. Period ends with him down 5-1.

Third period
Steen down. He stands and is out to 5-2. They’re neutral for a bit. Medley gets a takedown after Steen tried and tried to get a shot attempt through. That’s how it ends.

Medley d. Steen, 7-2.

That's the best Steen has looked in a while. More energy and quickness. Took more shots, but not strong enough to finish them. Almost as though he decided, "it's my last match of the year; stop being so timid".

It’s amazing they couldn’t find ANYONE better at 125. We have been totally non-competitive at that spot this year.

Byers sounds like he’s at a soccer game in South Africa with vuvuzuelas. Annoying as hell.

Gomez gets injury default over Miller. Wonder if he now MDFs from here, as well.

149: Shayne Van Ness vs. Jaden Reynolds

First period
Van Ness gets in on an early takedown for a 2-0 lead. Reynolds just got his second stall call in the first period. Now 3-0 with about 40 seconds left. SVN working on a turning combination but can't get there before time expires. 3-0 after one.

Second period
SVN down and quickly out to 4-0. Takedown to 6-0. Cut to 6-1. Takedown to 8-1, cut to 8-2. And again. It's 10-2 and he has 3:23 in RT. SVN cuts to 10-3. That's how the third ends.

Third period
Takedown for a 12-3 lead. Cut to 12-4. RT assured. So we'll go with 13-4. Takedown again. 15-4. Cut. And another takedown. It's 17-5. Cut and single leg takedown. 19-7. It's 4:37 in RT.

Van Ness md. 19-7 Reynolds.

Looks as though you guys did well with covering and discussing Session 1, and have kept it going at the start of Session 2. Good stuff, guys. I enjoyed reading it during my one extended break today. I'm exhausted, but I'm hoping to contribute some PBP once the semifinals commence.
