Anybody else a little worried about Tennessee this year?

They've put up back-to-back #5 recruiting seasons including six 5* players in the last two years. They are recruiting like a mutha.
If they start developing this talent, I don't think they're going to be jokes in the SEC anymore.

OU played a very young team in Norman last year.....several true freshmen. In Knoxville, the Sooners will face a very hostile crowd, a more experienced team (still young) and a much improve QB who replaced last year's starter and played well down the stretch. Yeah, the Vols have my attention.

I'm concerned because of our own short comings and that it's a road game.

Ultimately, we have more experience and talent, though the talent gap is close, and I think veteran guys like Sheppard, Striker, and Perine (yes I consider him a vet now) should be the difference in a big early season road test.

Baylor bites Mike Stoops too much, so hopefully that will change next season.

Perhaps, some aren't aware that this new offense throws a lot of short passes that pad completion stats.

WVU = 63.7% (Lincoln Riley best compared his offense with WVU in his welcome to OU presser.)

And, some of you guys need to research before posting.

While I expect Tennessee to have a better team I also expect
that last year's OU team that finished 8-5 will also be improved. It's a mistake
to count this as an automatic loss for OU.




IMO it will all boil down to how much OU players want this

For the record, if the OU QB completes 14 of 32 passes for two or three touchdowns and OU wins, is anyone going to give a **** if his completion percentage is below (gasp!) the sacred 63% level ?

Two stars QB from Bellaire, Texas with offers from Harvard and ECU, so not highly ranked.

Threw for 51%[/B] for 1,900[/B] yards his senior year, 46%[/B] for 1,350[/B] yards his junior year in high school.

If Lincoln Riley can coach him up, he can do the same with the QBs on OU's roster with much greater upside coming from high school.

This offense pads passing stats, so 63% better be the minimum or OU is in trouble.

I simply post my opinion and bring researched hard numbers or facts, not gut feelings.

I could care less, if someone gave me a popularity trophy or ribbon for it.

The only games I am not worried about are Tulsa, Kansas, and to a lesser extent Iowa State.

Based on last year, and because lately we haven't improved/developed talent except for a few individuals, I don't see how we win in Tennessee. They have had some excellent recruiting classes, and they have a head coach that has fire in his belly - plus he's an excellent coach notwithstanding...

The Vols will be ready for us next season. If OU can find them a QB that can throw accurately in the new offense of Riley, it'll be fun to play them, if not, OU could be in for a long nasty road trip.

Tennessee next year in their house will be a formidable game unless OU makes some big time strides going into next season. Tennessee was a young team last year with a ton of talent that will have a season under their belts we they play OU next year.

No doubt UT will be improved and playing them in Knoxville will be tough, but I don't think anyone is counting this as an automatic loss. However, OU is bringing back a lot of experienced players (but a few big holes to fill as well) and I expect the Sooners will be at least a TD favorite heading into this game.

Last time I looked John Blake wasn't the HC at OU, therefore I don't worry about OU's opponents. I concern myself with what OU does on the field. Anyone, anywhere, anytime... The Tennessee game will go a long ways in telling us how effective the new offense can or will be down the line. It will also tell us rather or not the defense has made some strides and this is why I like them being the Sooners second game of the season. The Akron game won't really tell us as fans much because that game should be a blowout.

I agree with the poster who said as a fan they were worried about every game except maybe Akron, Kansas, and ISU. Lets just hope that both sides of the ball and even our special teams improves this coming season. If any of them fails to deliver then the 2015 season could be another long one for us as fans.

Playing Tennessee at Knoxville is a concern.....but if I look at the overall picture, I see an OU team that is in a state of transformation, with several big question marks and a schedule that will challenge any and every attempt by OU to improve its on-field product.
Tennessee away, then Texas, then Kansas State away.....and a season ending three game mine field of Baylor away, TCU at home and OSU away....will make the 2015 season a very slippery slope.
OU could be a better team, could play hard and close in every game, show significant improvement and still lose 3-5 games. Having watched a ton of college football, I see a wide gap between where OU is right now and where OU needs to be to play for a national championship. That gap seems to be expanding in recent years.

2015 Schedule... I see 5 guarantees, or must, wins. Although, I don't see Charles in Charge being the answer at Texas, so I'm tempted to call that a guaranteed win as well.

I think Tennessee will put a lot more stress on our defense this year. Striker had a field day against the Vols last year, but Tennessee's new QB showed a lot more than the one that played against us in Norman. I agree with JCon's point about playing Tennessee early with regard to our offense. Hopefully, we have a great spring and fall practice, and the guys work hard this summer.
