Same attitude all the time, the only time i give that channel is when their bus stops at pre season camp in August.

Some fabricated eastern or third world conference would have been better?
Hope i see it in my lifetime but conferences are headed toward the mega look versions with pods, with the approval of Alabama, Ohio St. and ND of course.

Ever hear of the ACC? A better fit geographically, academically and competitively. Probably less $, which it was all about. And Joe wanting to play in the Rose Bowl. Even independence would have been better. B10 screwed us for years with their “Midwest nice” bs.

That and the rare, televised wrestling match. Otherwise, I seldom tune into it.
Never watch unless Penn St is on it. That Network’s big miss is not showing more wrestling. It has The Best conference for that, I think a healthy level of nat’l interest, and it’s exciting. They’d rather show Osu vs Mich replays ad nauseam than a wrestling match
Ohio State had two first-round NFL wideouts opt out - and threw for 17 bazillion yards in the Rose Bowl, including having a freshman WR (from Pennsylvania) with 5 career catches, rack up three touchdowns, and their #3 Wideout catch passes for 347 yards and another three touchdowns.
Penn State lost a first-round NFL wideout, and scored 10 points against Arkansas.

I agree, I would love to be playing in the ACC Conference, lovely states to visit in the fall, modest drive for me to the majority of away games…..but…..money for academic research and athletics is greater in the BIG.
YOU do remember Joe wanted to start an Eastern Conference realizing that independence was not viable in the future.

Yep. The Athletics money made the Big Ten the only real viable choice.
I don't think it (the Big Ten) does squat with regard to research funding - Penn State would be as likely to have just as much research money (which is nearly all Federal dollars now, for what it is worth), or more or less the same anyway, whether they were in the Big Ten, the ACC, or an independent with regard to their sports affiliation. But the sports money is overwhelmingly in favor of the Big Ten (even more so than the SEC - and the others aren't even in the same area code)
I remember reading years ago, prior to joining, the Schools in the conference we’re receiving more money …..

We were 7-6. No need to delve into the details. But you are correct. The B10 could care less about us even when we are a good team.

But the historical data don't back it up (this link will provide information going back to 2010 or so, which would include the transition of Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland - you might have to search for older data that would date back to Penn State's addition. If I come across it, I know I have it somewhere, but it may be in hardcopy form, I will try to post it for you):

Big Ten Universities - which is a grouping containing many of the largest public research universities in the nation - conduct large volumes of research. No doubt. In that way, it is a reasonable "home" for Penn State.
But the data does not support a causation. In other words, the Big Ten is comprised, mostly, of large public research institutions, but if joining the Big Ten was a "research boon", schools like Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers (and, back in the day, Penn State) would have seen meaningful increases in their rates of research funding growth congruent with joining the Big Ten - but they didn't.
For what it is worth, many - if not most - ACC Universities (Including Pitt, UNC, Duke, Georgia Tech, etc), do more research on a per capita basis than does Penn State (or most other Big Ten Universities). That is not a slight to the Big Ten, just a recognition that the Big Ten is not a requirement to access loads of Federal research money
Facts, especially when they are readily available, should trump PR releases - but they rarely do.
Claims that it’s about academics have all proved to be cover for the real reasons - sports $. Remember the argument that it was partly about sharing libraries - in the age of the internet?
