If you want to play at the big boy's table, then I believe there is one really good way to evaluate greatness. How many times have you won your conference. And how many of your conference champs won their bowl game? Winning a bowl when you play against a team with three or four or five or six losses, isn't about greatness. It's about ESPN selling commercials.

How many times have you won your conference and a bowl game the same year? And how many double digit win seasons do you have?

I turn 65 this summer. In my lifetime, Oklahoma has 32 conference titles and has 15 bowl wins after a conference title. We'd likely have won more, but the conference had a no bowl repeat rule when OU was at its best in the 50's.

Six national titles. And 31 double digit win seasons. Since I was born in 1951, one of the Sooner national titles isn't counted. I could go back to WW II to make the Sooner record more impressive. Or we could use Briles' DOB or Cale's.

In that same time, Baylor has won five conference titles. No national titles. No seasons when they won their conference and then won their bowl game. EVER. Not just not in my lifetime. NEVER.

Double digit wins seasons? Five. Baylor does have one major bowl victory. In 1956, they finished third in the Southwest Conference. But A&M, who had the best record in the conference, was on probation. TCU was next. They went to the Cotton Bowl and beat Jim Brown's Syracuse 28-27. Brown missed an extra point. Baylor was third and went to the Sugar Bowl and beat UTenn. Their only major bowl win, ever. OU still one upped em. One of our seven NC seasons. OU won all four BCS bowl games. Baylor hasn't won a major bowl game in 60 years. With a team that finished third in the SWC.

Baylor is much improved. But they won't be elite until they play somebody better than Lamar out of the conference, and go to a major bowl and actually outscore the other team. More than once.

But first, you have to do it once first.
