See the link below. From the article:

Peloton is temporarily halting production of its connected fitness products as consumer demand wanes and the company looks to control costs, according to internal documents obtained by CNBC.

Peloton plans to pause Bike production for two months, from February to March, the documents show. It already halted production of its more expensive Bike+ in December and will do so until June. It won’t manufacture its Tread treadmill machine for six weeks, beginning next month. And it doesn’t anticipate producing any Tread+ machines in fiscal 2022, according to the documents. Peloton had previously halted Tread+ production after a safety recall last year.

The company said in a confidential presentation dated Jan. 10 that demand for its connected fitness equipment has faced a “significant reduction” around the world due to shoppers’ price sensitivity and amplified competitor activity.

Peloton has essentially guessed wrong about how many people would be buying its products, after so much demand was pulled forward during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s now left with thousands of cycles and treadmills sitting in warehouses or on cargo ships, and it needs to reset its inventory levels.”

Maybe this is why Peloton commercials are on constantly, though that isn’t helping with their costs.

Perhaps Peloton needs to go back to marginalizing women. o_O

More people wanting to exercise outside I think and of course, COVID limitations at gyms with Peloton machines. Still, this is our future:

Whether it’s Peloton or something cheaper, many of these exercise machines become clothes racks. How many Peloton buyers drop their subscriptions? So Peloton sells a machine but loses what is supposed to be their sustainable revenue.

I can see a run on Peloton machines early on in the pandemic with gyms closed. However, now people want to get out and exercise whether it’s outside, as you said, or at the gym. How many people enjoy or are motivated by working out alone continuously?

Both my wife and I love our Peloton bike. We purchased in July 2020 (yep - pandemic inspired purchase) and we work out at minimum 4 X 45 minute rides per week...

It might not be for everyone but there's nothing more convenient than when outside temperature is 20'F, jumping on my Peloton and doing a 45 minute workout (at a comfortable 68'F)... I've dropped 25 lbs (down to my PSU weight from 1982!), and quite frankly have never been more fit from a cardiovascular level. The online Peloton community is very robust - my wife and I are presently doing an 8 week "Powerzone Challenge" which includes several thousand members.

From a business / stock perspective - Peloton has some issues. The monthly streaming fee of $40 at least provides an ongoing revenue stream that people like us still see as a bargain compared to monthly gym memberships.

Whether it’s Peloton or something cheaper, many of these exercise machines become clothes racks. How many Peloton buyers drop their subscriptions? So Peloton sells a machine but loses what is supposed to be their sustainable revenue.

You should never buy new exercise equipment. Just got to a yard sale or wait till around now, after all the New Years resolutions fail, and look for something "slightly" or mostly "never" used on line.

I’ve ridden an exercise bike in my garage almost every day for the last 7 years or so. I hate the idea of going to a gym and am not really a runner.

Fair point. A gym isn’t for everyone. Peloton offers a good alternative, though there is a lot of competition in the home exercise space, as CNBC cited.

Peloton has the highest profile and biggest name recognition by far. You just don't see television characters having heart attacks from their Nordic Tracks.

I love the gym. Yes it’s not for everyone but I dig watching strong people push themselves.

Pre-Covid Peloton owner here. Have had my bike since 2018. I used to spin at the gym (Spivi was the system my gym used) but as it became harder to schedule classes around my work schedule, the Peloton became the answer for me. The live interaction and vast on-demand library sold me. Also like the capability of filtering classes by music type, class length, ckass type, etc.

And yes, there are some rather energetic and attractive instructors to keep me motivated.

I also wouldn’t do a Peloton. I don’t like people yelling at me. I ride a regular old exercise bike and watch YouTube or a game on the iPad to distract myself from actually exercising.

Especially after the pandemic spending spree. You'll be able to get exercise equipment, kayaks, biked, etc for dirt cheap.

There are much better options than Peloton for indoor bike training. Peloton's subscription fee is massively overpriced and a total ripoff. Check the competition before you buy.

$40/mo is massively overpriced? What does Echelon or Nordictrac charge? Are there other options?

I am currently paying for 2 subscriptions, and they get used a ton. Each is worth much more than $40/mo.

My Tacx subscription is $99.99 per year and it is awesome. Plus my trainer allows me to change to a different app if I want. Peloton locks you in. It is for suckers.

One other option is to not buy a subscription for an exercise bike. I don't understand why anyone would do that ... what does it do for you? I plant myself on my bike, turn on my TV, pick my level/training circuit, and I'm good to go. I don't need anyone cheering me on, or yelling at me, or whatever a Peloton subscription provides you with.

Motivation is a weird thing. I don't need to pay for my motivation myself, but if someone needs to pay for something extra, it's usually worth the money.

To be honest, a big reason I so often post here about going to the gym is purely motivational. When I post, "Now, off to the gym!" I won't post again until I'm back. It works.

Also, very often people underestimate what they're capable of. The main reason I didn't reach my fitness goals last year is because I avoided treadmill work. I have a very particular, very strenuous treadmill routine with a kettlebell and convinced myself that I couldn't do this while wearing a mask. Turns out I was wrong.

Where are you picking your level training circuit from?

I pay for Zwift. I think it’s $15/month. For me it it money well spent (no peloton; wahoo KICKR Bike)

Meanwhile:

”When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit, fitness folks hopped onto stationary bikes at home while gyms were closed.

As virtual bike workouts increased, a recent media report stated how female cyclists participating in spin classes have been experiencing urinary incontinence possibly linked to their cycling routine.

Health experts told Fox News that pressure from the bicycle seat on the perineum (the genital area) may contribute to problems with urinary incontinence, sexual arousal, and trigger genital pain and numbness in some female and male cyclists.“

Watch your PERINEUM. o_O .
