Although it really isn't all that meaningful, OU is going to play three teams next season that finished in the Top Ten....two in non-conference battles. Regardless, it will make for interesting preseason talk. I think the final rankings are just about right. Oklahoma University, ranked 19th in preseason, ended up #5. Not too shabby. Boomer!

Not to mention the fact that tOSU only lost once (to a playoff team), & while Stanford did lose twice, neither of the teams that beat them were anywhere near the calamity of the trainwreck that beat us in Dallas. SU also had to win an extra CCG that we didn't.

I have no problem with # 5. Considering the preseason expectations (predicted 3rd in the conference by most; some had us 4th due to OSU getting all of the big 3 teams in Stillwater), it was a good year.

I don't begrudge being behind Ohio State. But they were way overrated this season. Their bowl win over Notre Dame, who had lost a quarter of their best players and then lost their Butkus linebacker early, shows that they weren't really that good. They lost to Michigan State at home with MSU missing their starting quarterback. Hard to see how they'd be ranked ahead of the Spartans. But don't know that there is much difference between being fourth or fifth or sixth.

It was a good season. We'll see how the match up goes next season when the Buckeyes visit Norman. That won't be an easy game for either team. I'm also a little worried about Samaje's recuperation. I guess we'll have a pretty good DLine next year, assuming there are no off the field problems. The secondary should be really good. We'll need to find some linebackers.

Offensively, the new receiving group will need to get up to speed quickly.

I think it's about right as well. It's amazing what a new OC can bring to the table w/ regards to new beginnings and renewed focus. Riley's first year on the staff he learned how to use his two gifted RBs as the season progressed. Starting at #19 and moving to #5 is sooo much better than starting at #5 and moving to #19.

On another note, by chance I bumped into a lifelong UH fan and season ticket holder today while at a lunch meeting. He like most UH fans are pumped up about their future and this guy quickly let me know that he thought beating OU would only re-enforce the program's presence back onto the national level. He reminded me of the days when they were an independent and beat elite teams. I too remember those days. Bill Yoeman was a very good HC. Anyway, it was an enjoyable conversation walking down memory lane w/ the guy. Of course I reminded him that OU will not be a pushover like FSU was. He quickly agreed and while he has faith in his Cougars, he expressed a great deal of respect for Oklahoma football. He thinks the stadium will sell out for next Sept's game, full of UH fans. I think he's going to be surprised at the number of OU fans that will be in attendance and told him so as well.

Things like this are good to talk about, but in reality doesn't really mean much. Basing whether Ohio State was any good or overrated by how they played against ND really carries no weight. It's similar to this board saying OU was by far the better team because Clemson struggled to beat N Carolina. What happened between Clemson and N Carolina had zero influence on what happened at the Orange Bowl. And the mindset of basing how good Clemson was by them struggling against N Carolina ended up being fools gold. It's funny, Clemson is getting far more respect in defeat, than they ever did while they were undefeated.

The Ohio State outcome could be that ND was better than expected?? Or possibly Ohio State was less than inspired to play in a lesser bowl after being that close to making the playoffs a 2nd year in a row??
