Rumor was Jr was responsible for Our Demise in the End of Spurrier Sr Tenure here. Poor Recruiting while being the Recruiting Coordinator? Anyone won't to elaborate and/or comment? Jr didn't have have a good Rapport With SC High School Coaches?
Overwhelming rumors at the time were that Spurrier Jr. was very arrogant when he went on HS campuses and was very offputting to HS coaches....and that he, more than any, destroyed the recruiting relationships that EJ and Lawing had established and that served us very well. Some were also saying that Jr. had a lot of say in the replacement coaches that led to our downfall. If half of that has any truth, he may be the worst assistant coach in the history of college football....that is a tall order to fill.

I always wondered if not being able to get Jr set up as the head coach in waiting might of contributed to Spurrier wanting to retire when he did (and Tanner begging him to stay another year though recruiting efforts had pretty much already been retired).
Yeah. Lawing recruited the dad and Charlie Strong recruited the mom....Strong made the right decision. I remember there was a little more to that story also.Minus the Carlos Dunlap incident.
The problem with legends and their nepotistic staffs. The kid ain't no legend and sooner or later needs to go. The HC holds on so long they lose the locker room. And imagine how awkward Thanksgiving dinner is if you've had to fire your son. Lose-Lose.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall he got in a fist fight with Kenny McKinley??? Maybe a different receiver???
