My fiance and I were discussing this last night. How many kids do you need to have before you are guaranteed that at least one will take care of you when you are old? Two seems too low, but six seems too high. She want's four, but I'm a bit undecided on kids at the moment.

Why should the children sacrifice their adult lives and their own kids needs to take care of their parents? This isn't the 1800s or Korea. That is what assisted living and independent retirement communities are for. No way in hell will my in-laws or parents be moving in with me. There are special communities for that.

The answer is 3. If 1, they could hate you. If 2, they could fight between the 2 and not see you. 4 is too many kids, and you want to kill yourself.

3 is the perfect number because if the 2 fight, the third will act as the mediator, and bring the family together. Its enough to establish the importance of family.

Assisted living and retirement communities can get pretty damn expensive.

So, do we now plan the size of our family around this? Shouldn't you ask, how many kids can we afford to have and still be able to take care of all of them?

With all the money you'd save by not having children invested compounding interest, the answer is probably zero; you pay a live in nurse in a short skirt when the time comes.

There are no guarantees in life. And if you are expecting someone else to "take care of you", then you have no business procreating.

Back to the original question, 1 would do it if you raise him/her right. I suppose the odds increase as you go up in number. If you raise them poorly, then 10 might not be enough. But if being taken care of is your concern, then I also assume that $ is a concern for you as well, and kids ain't cheap, so the more you have the more it costs. Don't have any and you can more likely afford to pay someone to take care of you.

I don't even understand the thought process of the original post. I don't think I've ever even thought of something so insanely stupid. I thought this was going to be about welfare checks or something, not getting welfare off of your children.

You take care of your children so that they'll be able to take care of their children, not so they'll take care of you. What a terrible thought process.

I have taken care of two older dying parents. He is talking about checking on well being, going to store, visiting and some nursing. Not living off of.

Yes let the welfare folks and Muslims populate the world. The real message of Idiocracy is what you are suggesting.
The only thing missing from that post is bashing Obama.

Never miss an opportunity to insert whatever agendas you may have into an argument. Good work.

I opened this thread expecting it would be humorous and mostly tongue in cheek, but even end of life care is apparently a part of the radical islamic state agenda.

If your kids turn out to be ungrateful little bitches when you get old, just adopt another one and guilt him/her into taking care of you.

Whatever clevon.

Now runoff to RR to start threads embarrassing our fan base.
Why, you are doing a nice job of embarrassing yourself?

Lets check. Its a thread about # of kids to have. You insert comment about Muslims and welfare, which literally has nothing to do with this thread. You get called out for said dumbassery, only to insult back.

I did like the clevon comment though.

One in every five people is a Muslim. So, if you have five kids one will be a Muslim.

Err and kids aren't? I know you would make them chip in on the Netflix but still they would be costly.
Touche, kids are expensive. But if your reason for having kids is to have someone to take care of you when you are old, probably should just avoid the whole kids thing to begin with because you'll likely be a ****** parent.

I prefer the other way around. I just look at my parents as people I can charge. Netflix for example. Love charging my parents to use that.

if you're Asian? just one.

so since i'm not going to be procreating with an asian gal, what are my minimums? also kids (esp. kids in college) are expensive. if i'm paying for them after 18, they better damn well also take care of me when i'm old.

Believe it or not, some of us will be too poor by the economic/financial raping the boomers have bestowed upon us to afford a golf community retirement.

Just one - to do as the Eskimos do: When you can't take care of yourself they sled you out onto an ice floe & leave you to wait for a friendly polar bear to come by for a meal.

And then they eat the polar bear!

Euthanize yourself when you get too old to work and be a productive citizen.
Will your estate to complete strangers so your kids will get over your passing quickly.
