That, and Thief. He didn’t have all that much range as an actor and was hard to cast. I’m not sure who else could have played Sonny, though; the role really needed his physicality. He was excellent playing off Cazale, Duvall, and, especially, Talia Shire in The Godfather. Remember how he slapped Pacino around after Mike got his jaw broke? Excellent acting. I’ll have to try Gardens of Stone.

I saw an interview a month or so ago on CBS Sunday Morning…. Went in depth on The Godfather. The scene at the toll booth where Sonny got slaughtered… was done in one take!

Passes away at 82...great actor, great guy. RIP James, thanks for the cinematic memories. Santino Corleone...loved that role...Misery with Cathy Bates, awesome flick...and of course Brian's Song...
Yea saw that RIP James Solid actor who always gave it his all in every role .

It’s kind of amazing he was a leading man and could carry a film. But, he did, and considering his peers are De Niro, Redford, Pacino, etc, that says a lot.

I have no comment, other than the fact his son Scott is really, really short and was annoying on Entourage.

Much less memorable, unless you were in Reading in 1969 when it was being filmed, was “Rabbit, Run”
