He’s eligible this year and is finally starting to look like the back he was projected to be. Long way to go of course, but if he continues to run well, I wonder if he’d take a stab at the draft, given the general short shelf life of RBs.

It never fails! Every year whenever one of our players has a monster game, our fans have him going to the NFL. Tori Gurley, Ace Sanders, Kevin Harris, you name it. Why do our fans plant the seed, people jump on the bandwagon and then they are gone? Most, not all, of them probably wish they had played one more year.

This is a different situation. He's in a pretty rare situation of completely missing his first season due to injury and basically lost last season because he wasn't 100%. He's finally full strength and running well, but it happens to be his 3rd year, which means he's draft eligible. RBs have a short shelf-life in the NFL and he's already been injured once. Considering those factors, if he gets a good draft grade, I suspect he would bolt. I hope not. I'm not in favor of guys going pro early, but it is what it is. If he had played the last 2 years and did not play well and was finally playing well, I think it'd be a different story.

Wheni read the thread, I had to go look it up, I thought surely this was only his second year. I know he missed that first year, but last year was the forgotten year for me.

But I agree with your reasoning on leaving early. Running backs in particular have a short shelf life in the NFL.

Yeah, it's a shame. It's not like he was a bust early on and is finally playing well. He just had two years taken away. I don't want him to go pro early, but I want him to keep running well, but if he keeps running well, he's probably gonna go pro.

It's a good problem, if that makes sense. I'd rather have guys playing well enough to leave early than not playing well.

Definitely something I have thought of as well. I think he needs a little more time than just a 12 games stretch to show that he is that ready for the NFL. Also, if he does do enough to give himself a boost in stock, would be interesting to see how he approaches it. I can't see him getting anywhere north of the 4th round unless he has a heisman-esque second half. In that case, how much does he make in NIL? $660K is the minimum salary in NFL so that's likely what he would get in the 4th round or later. If he can make a few hundred K via NIL, I think it would be enough to keep him for another year to try to boost his draft stock.

His performance at the combines will have more impact. I would think he has shown enough this year to be invited to the combines.

The more successful our players have in the draft is the best for our program. We just have to hope once he leave our other Rbs are ready to go and we can recruit someone that’s just as good or better

Well you can't participate in the combine and return to college football, so that will have no weight on whether he decides to go pro or not.

I thought about this for the first time the other day. I would understand if he left early but it would suck to only have him for one "real" season.

I don't think they make their decision to leave early based on what fans say,if they do then they are in need of some guidance

I don't think so but it's up to him and his family. The ones who have supported him not a bunch of geezers behind a keyboard. With that said just an opinion. Big mistake. He and Rattler need another year to prove their worth. RB are a dime a dozen and it's a roll of the dice for rb with better credentials than this young man.

Good RBs are certainly not a dime a dozen. Scouts are always looking for guys with measurables and don't focus so much on college stats.

It all depends on how he performs the rest of the season. If he continues to run well and works out well for scouts, who knows? Will he be the top-ranked back if he chooses to come out? Not even close. But it'll just be a matter of weighing his draft projection against his injury history and lifespan of a RB. Maybe he'll get a horrible draft grade that makes it an easy decision. Maybe he'll get a great draft grade that makes it an easy decision. Maybe he'll get a middle-of-the road draft grade, and that's where the weighing comes in. There are quire a few successful NFL RBs who were mid or late round picks. And maybe he's already made up his mind and has no interest in going pro after this season.

My only point is that he is eligible to go to the draft after we really only got 1 year of service out of him.
