Quite surprising they lost two WS out of three much like the '69-'71 Orioles.84 Tigers started 35-5 and were a machine through the order and on the mound. They could definitely be in the argument as the best team of the '80s. I'd also nominate the 89 A's as they were very similar to the 84 Tigers but they had the staying power having lost the WS in 88 to the Dodgers and again in 90 to the Reds. 89 will be remembered more for the earthquake and the Series was a bit of an afterthought so I don't think the A's got their just due.
Morris, Petry and Wilcox vs. Gooden, Darling, Ojeda, and Fernandez, If the Tigers can get it to Willie Hernandez, one has to like their chances.84 Tigers started 35-5 and were a machine through the order and on the mound.
