Portland State upsets the Leach 'air raid"

Division 2 Portland State held the air raid to 17 points in a 24-17 victory at WSU. I went to their board and one of the complaints were using 10 different receivers in the game. One poster asked why don't you just stick to the top 4 or 5. He may have a point in this offense. I think Sterling should be in every play until he tires. Same goes with the other starters that earned the job. I don't see any problem playing the youngsters, but some of them received immediate playing time in the rotation.

Am I wrong? Discuss.......

I agree with having Shepard always in. As far as the receivers, I would think it depends on how good they are. My thoughts are, if it is working keep on the same game plan.

10 sounds a little extreme. I think you need at least 4 to 5 dependable receivers in this offense and right now it seems like we have that

Well, we'll see how this progresses.
I'd like to think that Riley wanted to give some newbies some badly needed reps in a real time game, especially when the game was well in hand and the W was a forgone.

I'm quite sure, and logic would dictate he'll only have his top 4 or 5 receivers playing this coming Saturday.

BTW, you do realize OU is going to win, right?:cool:

It all depends on the quality of your depth at WR. Why spread the ball around to that many receivers if you don't have any kind of quality depth that far down? I can see a point in wanting to keep Shepard on the field for every play. But that's not optimal unless OU just doesn't have any depth that can step up when he is off the field. Especially in a close game that goes all the way down to the wire it's generally benificial to get players some plays off so they aren't worn out at the end of the game. A fresher Shepard is a bigger threat against a tired secondary than a worn out Shepard is late in a game.
I think OUs WR unit will get better and deeper as the season goes. Neal made an impressive leap in improvement it appeared the other day. Let's hope more step up and take some pressure off Shepard having to carry the WRs.
