DL, OL and TE's looking particularly strong.

Can we sign some of these guys to 4 year scholarships to limit this portal uncertainty with some contractual obligations? Is this a viable way to try to get a handle on things for the future?

To my understanding- if a scholarship
player enters the portal. The College/USC releases him from scholarship- enters his name on the portal- and then the Coaching staff finds someone else from the portal or recruiting from High School to take that spot.
What’s going to be interesting are the players who get stuck in the portal and no college picks them up. Their options could be to enroll at a college like anyone else and walk on. Or start flipping burgers as Dabo puts it. There will be a few guys who screw themselves out of a full ride. And we will see them crying about it on tv by telling the media how evil the portal is. :)

I hated losing a few to the portal. Especially Bell, but truth is he isn’t exactly an irreplaceable player. Same Stogner who went back to OKLAHOMA. They have already been replaced with people who I think bring us more talent.

I kind of like how the portal has worked for us so far.

Ultimately, the portal is good for College Football. It is like tracking free agency in baseball....creates a hot stove league. Keeps CF in discussion. Another is there are bad fits. Give the kids the flexibility to leave just like the coaches do.

While the next couple or three years will be crazy, I think within five years, you will see it used less and less as the new wears off.

certainly hope it plays out that way but have my doubts. this would never work in the NFL with unlimited free agency and no contractual obligations. would be total chaos!

No it’s not!!! Are you smoking crack? Look how many kids enter the portal and won’t have a place to play.
Don’t give me that 3-5 year stuff. That’s the same thing people said about bb. Basically every team is a ram of transfers and it hasn’t changed in the 3-5 years. The vast vast majority of these KIDS are not going pro. They also will end up without a degree. Not to mention all the kids not being out getting recruited to a school because teams can go get portal players.

This isn’t good for college fb at all.

As it is structured now, particularly the timing of its opening, it is not a good thing. Coaches won't assail it because that would label them as anti-player. That's how the world works now - disarm the other side with outrageous accusations. But what coach would enjoy recruiting almost every key player on the roster every year - PLUS the new acquisitions? That would be crazy.

Like too many things that need nudging the pendulum swings off the hinges in the other direction. Allowing players more flexibility in transferring was needed but with more control. More control?? Actually, the problem is NO control. No regs or directions whatsoever. It's the wild, wild west. Also I think some more payment to players was needed. But My gracious!! Paying high school players outrageous sums. Definitely that needs to stop but how??? Once the cat is out of the bag it's hard to get a grip on paying. Players should be paid once they are in school and it should be a reasonable stipend but what is reasonable, you say??? The NCAA should have stepped up and addressed these issues years ago in an orderly fashion. Instead those stupid B****** were ruling on giving cookies to recruits or writing those dastardly letters to kids who had already signed with a school. OK. My tirade is over for now.
