  1. A woman was shot at a St Louis Cardinal game - hardly was a story
  2. Jones allegedly gets called the n-word and it's the worst thing that's happened in baseball since the strike
  3. Jones was kicked out of the game at Fenway the next day for arguing balls and strike

Edit: Nevermind. Not worth the effort. I'll just say whatever I feel like.
I was going to start a thread, but since this one is here, I'll piggyback if ya don't mind.

The N-word is like the F-bomb now. It's a lazy word. By lazy, I mean it's used as a noun, a verb, adverb, and adjective. After going thru hell on earth in 1966 (the only black 1st grader in the entire class) the word itself doesn't bother me anymore. There are 3 white guys on the face of the earth who can walk up to me, say that word, and I'll probably hug them after I call them sorry-assed rednecks. Because they're my friends, and I love them. And there are black people who I would punch in the mouth if they say that word around me. Because I know them, and I know they are full of hate. And I have no time for hate anymore.

I'll get off the soapbox now and turn the thread back over to the OP. Us black folk can't have it both ways. If white folk can't say it without us getting upset, we should set the example and not use it, even as a term of endearment, even as the modern usage (the 'a' instead of the 'er').

As a middle aged, white, pro-gun, anti-welfare, anti-abortion, pro-Trump conservative ,male I say there ain't no place for that type crap. Think what you want, but keep it to yourself especially at a ballgame.

I agree there's no place for this crap. I think the guy who did it should be kicked out and left out for the rest of the year (lifetime ban seems excessive as people change).

But let's also not forget, the ballpark is a place that seems to have a large share of degenerates. There are people who scream FU and say a hell of a lot more right next to my kids. People fight. People threaten. Is it that extreme for a guy to drop the n-word there? I'm just saying society shouldn't freak out about it.

I agree that no one should be using that kind of language. That said I find it disturbing that this fan was banned and there is no proof he said anything was there? Surly they don't do things like that off word of mouth, if so you can get anyone you don't liked kicked out.

It was reported that the guy who reported the person banned had witnesses that verified his account of the incident. Having said that, I agree with you. This is pure overkill, and directly attributable to the Adam Jones incident earlier in the week.

I appreciate that. America has come a long way since 1966. Too bad the focus has now become on the racism outliers instead of everyday people accepting each other regardless of skin color.

I think sports venues in general have gotten worse over the years. Lots of fans remind me of those keyboard warriors that we see all over the internet. They know they can run their mouths and abuse players and nothing will be done about it.

I think it is one thing to support your team, but foul language around children is something else. And the N word is absolutely despicable. I for one am glad the guy got banned for life.

I think once a year there should be a players allowed purge where they can charge any fan that steps over the line. Now that would be fun to watch.

Most times, fans police their own. Back in 2014 when the Vols played USC at Williams-Brice, there was a drunk Vol fan constantly F-bombing everybody and everything with a 6-7 year old little girl within 20 feet of him. After the 3rd warning, me and a couple of other fans literally dragged him out of the stadium (the little old lady that was the usher appreciated that). Too bad, because he missed a great comeback and the Columbia cops probably knocked him around more than we did.

I've been saying this for so long. We can never become equal until we stop focusing on race. Ironically this usually gets me called racist.

After retirement, I went back to grad school. One of the classes I took was taught by an African lady. It was one of those "multi-cultural" classes. When I made a comment about not considering race that it should be a non-issue in decisions, she said that was in and of itself "racist". She went on to say we should appreciate race and its differences (culturally). Hog-wash

That's because if there were no focus on race, she'd be out of a job. Academic institutions foment that ****.

Exactly. I took it as her saying we should consider race; as an employer I should hire with race considerations.......Uh....I'd call that "racist" thinking.

Racism will never go away b/c it's such a good way to shake down or exploit people for money. The government is very good at doing it. Blacks, muslims, gays, what ever way libs can divide people to have some bs grievance. But lately whitey has been taken a beating (after Obama 8 years). People will treat you how you allow yourself to be treated. As low and as ****** as you want to go. If you have a perceived grievance b/c of your skin color clean your brain with a bullet please.

I've noticed this too.

I saw it in the uppers at Rupp on two different instances. The mildest instance I saw, one of our fans was swearing and calling UK players and Cal some pretty detestable stuff in front of some young kids in the second half of the KU game this year. Several fans around him got onto him about showing some respect and he eventually STFU.

The other one was a UL fan in 2014. Walked up the steps with double birds, screamed F Kentucky, called Cal a cheater, Randle soft, etc., etc., etc. After we beat them he tried to spit upwards at a Cats fan. The UK fan elbowed the punk in the face and knocked him back a few rows. And the dude's UL friends just let him get what was coming to him. I never understood how someone can run their mouth like that when they're outnumbered 500 to 1 easily.

Some people just don't know how to act. Yelling profane or racist stuff in public generally shows a lack of intelligence/proper raising.

That's an odd thing for any professor to say. "Color blindness" was a popular expression during the civil rights movement and was a primary point of emphasis for MLK Jr. So I think you certainly got it right. I will say the professor has a point about diversity which is a good thing, but saying your perspective is racist is insane.
