The Ohio State Loss Effect

Let talk about what the effect of TOSU losing will have in the upcoming committees poll that will be released Tuesday. Did their loss open up the door for OU to move up to number 5 or will they award MSU a big jump for beating the big bad Buckeyes.

We know to date that with the recent MSU win that they now have wins over ranked Oregon, Michigan, and now Ohio State but like OU they have that "Bad" Loss. Being as though that we know how the committee seems to give preference to the SEC and B10 in their rankings will they somehow try to give us the talk that the MSU loss to Nebraska was controversial and overlook it?

Will the new rankings come Tuesday look something like this below.

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Notre Dame
4. Iowa
5. Michigan State
6. Oklahoma
7. Ohio State
8. Baylor
9. Florida ( My bet is the words SEC keeps them here and we will hear some BS excuse from Long as to why)
10. Michigan
11. Oklahoma State

Now one would say that OU should be no worse than 5 in the new poll but you can bet that Notre Dame's close game will be overlooked and they will reference the 5 turnovers for moving to 3. So lets hear every ones opinion on what you think the Ohio State effect will be with the new poll due out Tuesday.

Try to look at it from what and how you think the committee will view things and not how you would rank the teams.

I think we will be #5 and Mich St. will be #6. Need to remember that if the punter from Michigan doesn't throw them the ball, Mich. St. has 2 losses. I do worry about the Big 10 influence on the committee though. Alvarez and Osborne will probably vote for Mich. St.

I also OU likely at No. 5. Mich. State had a good close win but was too far back to climb that much. If the Committee watched the games and give OU a slight Mayfield discount Mich State will be sixth. Also MSU won with its backups too. Might be close.

Then OU hopes Iowa loses a Big10 championship?

The other three should win out, but I guess Bama might lose in SEC championship?

Now that would be classic especially if UF goes into that game 11-1 and wins. We all know that UF has looked terrible lately and if the committee is going to be honest with themselves they are the worse 10-1 team in the country at this point. In fact I think most would agree we could point to quite a few 2 loss and even some 3 loss teams that would likely beat UF if they matched up. Would the committee bump up the Gators to the top 4 even though they are not as good as the other 1 loss teams just because of the letters SEC?

My point here is the Big 12 champ (even if is OU ) will be fighting for a spot with an already agenda driven committee. This is why I think and will not be shocked to see the Spartans jump from 9 to 5 over OU this week based on that committees agenda's. I don't trust that group one bit to show any integrity.

I'm also thinking that Iowa @ 4 and Mich St @ 5 might be a better situation for OU. As they would play in their Champ game, one losing moves OU up to at least 4 for the last committee poll.

There will be Clemson, the b1g champ, the sec champ and OU only IF the Sooners win Bedlam, Stanford beats the domers and the committee has any integrity whatsoever.

There is still a lot of football left to be played and as stated we first need OU to beat OSU next week in Stillwater. When OU does that then all we can do is sit and wait and hope for either of the current top 4 teams to lose either next week or in their CCG. With that being said I think we all know that even say a 2 loss Florida was to upset Alabama in the SEC CCG it may still not be enough because I think ( And this is only my opinion ) that the committee has two conference champions (The SEC and B10) that will always get in no matter if they are deserving or not. Basically yes I believe that in all reality the P12, ACC, B12 and of course ND will always be fighting for the only 2 spots left each and every season.

I'm pretty sure that written in the committees contract somewhere.... :)

ND looked awful tonight. Boston College is 3-8 and the Domers beat them by 3. BC has ZERO wins in the ACC and their non conference wins were all against cream puffs. And ND looked average against Wake a week ago. I think we pass ND this week, and I'm sure Iowa will.

Plaino

I don' t think we will and here is why. Just a few minutes ago some guy on ESPN was asked about ND. He simply said they had to overcome 5 turnovers and was facing a good BC defense. (Talk about making me laugh with his excuses ) and that he just doesn't see the committee punishing them and simply thought they would look at the 5 turnovers and reward them for overcoming them.

Now I am not a big ESPN fan but I am pretty sure the committee will think along the same lines as the clowns that get air time on that station. Remember this committee makes and changes their rules each week and then we get the joy of listening to Long give us a big line of BS. ND isn't dropping out of the top 4 if they win out and people need to quit fooling themselves thinking they will. Just my opinion though.

You might be right. But I don't think it's a done deal. Looking at Bob after the game last night, I think he kind of felt like they needed an impressive showing to get there, and they didn't get it. TCU had more than a little to do with that. I promise you that their defense, with the guys they're getting back, is as good as BC's.

The Ohio State loss diminishes the importance of OSU being undefeated. But we still need Stanford to beat ND, Mich to beat Ohio State, Neb to beat Iowa, NC to beat Clemson and Florida will get beat by Alabama. We need to be on the opposite side of the bracket from Clemson and/or Alabama.

How many members of the board are Catholics? Idle curiosity.

(Yes, I just went there.)
