There is this foregone conclusion that TCU will be routed by OU

I'm not referring to anyone in particular. I'm referring generally to some OU fans, sportswriters, talk show hosts and the focus on Bedlam and getting to playoffs. When was the last time Vegas didn't touch an OU game? They won't touch this game with a ten-foot pole for good reason.

If so, that is a big mistake. The next two games can be won or lost with just about the same odds, IMO. Six weeks ago I wouldn't have given OU much of a chance to win against TCU. Now we shouldn't lose, but certainly may if we aren't ready to play. I truly believe we will find a way to win out, but I'm not taking anything for granted. And I don't think the Sooners are either. Good post, 22.

yes...and the ever present they may be two men down for the game so there wouldn't be any excuse not to blow them out (mainly from the media). TCU has always given us a game going way back. Patterson is no dummy.

As long as the team isn't going into the game with this mindset, then I will sleep easy at night. But I think it must be human nature to get cocky and overconfident when things are going so well. You see it every year, with pretty much every single team that gets on a roll. If anyone around here is having thoughts of thinking the TCU game will be easy, then they should go back and reread some of the threads prior to the Texas game. Sometimes the taste of humble pie wears off and another piece has to be force-fed down their throats to bring them back to reality.

I agree 22. This game isn't going to be a cake walk. It's going to be earned whoever wins. I damn sure hope it's OU. As a reminder, this is the one school in the Big 12 that recruited Mayfield. He wanted a schollie badly. But he was pased up. He never got it. So his level of energy might be a tad more higher than previous games. It's going to be a helluva game IMO.

Vegas isn't touching this game because they don't know if Boykin will start. The difference between which QB starts isn't necessarily because they think TCU has a chance. It's because they'll pay out billions if they pick a spread that's too close if he doesn't start.

TCU with Boykin is probably a TD underdog, give or take (I'm not a Vegas spread expert by any means). Without him, the spread's exponentially higher.

A few minutes ago on the Sports Animal, during Carey Murdoch's excellent OU Practice Report, Spinozzi said, and I quote, "It will be a beat down of epic proportions". This is the crap I am talking about.

Boss, if Boykin doesn't play, I can see OU beating TCU far worse than what OSU did to them. Their backup QB isn't as good as, say, our backup QB. They'll still score points, but they're just too banged up to keep up with us.

OU has the mindset right now to punish teams..... TCU is really banged up, I see OU scoring at least 45 on Senior night.

They have weapons too. Listenbee is one of the fastest players in CFB. Makes KD Cannon and that Washington dude from Okstate look slow.

I agree it only matters if the team thinks it will be a easy game. I think the team will play a good game. They know the Texas game is why they aren't in the top four playoff spots. I personally wish TCU had the starter playing at QB and wide receiver. OU will not get as much credit if Boykin is out.

I was there in 2005 when an unranked (i think) TCU team came in and beat us in Norman. Petterson is a good coach and they are like a wounded animal. Very dangerous, let's don't mess with them and just go ahead and put them out of their misery quickly!

Tonight would be a mandatory meeting at Stoops' house, a full viewing of the ut game. Every last play.

I think they need to watch highlights of big game swagger of us beating down teams. Throw in some BOZ highlights. No negative images to reflect on. They said they made the players watch Texas highlights beating us all week before the RRR game to avoid overconfidence and we came out and played just like the lowlights the players watched all week. It's kind of like a coach telling a player not to miss during a time out before he goes onto the court to shoot a game winning or losing free throw. or a coach telling a kicker don't miss before he goes out to kick the game winning field goal. I learned that lesson with my kids playing sports. It's hard but being positive most of the time but this was always the best way, even when I wanted to scream my head off at times(which i still did occasionally)

Whatever works for these players and coaches I hope they are focused.

Rings wasn't that during the Bomar incident and Thompson had to step in? I remember them throwing that bomb on the first play to Travis Wilson that fell incomplete. It was a rough day

BINGO!!!

I didn't think anyone else on this board realized the significance of Bob's quotes after the Texas loss about showing his team 100 times the footage of them losing to Texas a couple of years ago. Rings, glad you also recognize the importance of what coaches choose to mentally reinforce to their players prior to games.

I was there that day also Rings. I don't think I've ever heard an OU crowd so stunned and quiet after a loss.
I don't remember the score but it was very low. It was my youngest first game attendance at OU as a freshman. I get to hear about it from time to time...not a good start...ha

That was a REBUILDING team and Peterson's ankle was sprained coming in. A healthy TCU beat a young, rebuilding OU team with and injured RB.

OU was a preseason Top 5 that year. But I do agree it was a rebuilding year after playing for 2 natty's the previous 2 seasons. TCU was a complete unknown though and unranked going into the year. I think they ended the season in the Top 15 so they were a legit team at the time, but when they played OU nobody knew it yet.

Everyone's talking about how banged up the frogs are this year but last year with everyone on their team good and healthy and OU with a completely different team could have and should have beat them. This year with a better team offensively and defensively and at home OU should be just fine as long as they just don't have a complete meltdown and let the frogs hang around too long.

2008 is the only time in the 5 games that Patterson's been there that OU has won decisively. Tomorrow looks like it should be a comfortable win on paper, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's closer than expected either. GP's got that bulldog/never quit type mentality, & his teams have tended to mirror that much moreso than not.

I guess the 1978 Orange Bowl couldnt happen again we were 24 point favorites. Lou Holtz suspended his entire backfield for the game and we had Billy Sims. A Fr. by the name of Roland Sales he rushed for over 200 and 2 tds caught for another 50 and 2 more tds and Billy Sims had a bad case of all thumbs fumbling about a million times.

Anything can happen on any day..... Its just isnt gonna happen Saturday! Boomer Sooner!
