seeing players from Army and Navy that are hitting transfer portal. this does not seem to fit, as these players are at the academies for a purpose. while they are not slaves, they owe service when they complete their education. What do these players that leave the academies owe for service if they walk out in their final year?

The Academy rules were that you were not committed to your service if you left before entering your third year (hence not completing their education) PSU linebacker Rob Holmberg spent one year in the Naval Academy before transferring to PSU and then playing in the NFL for a few years. He did not have to complete his committment.

However, I don't know it those are the academy rules today.

they can leave after 2 yrs without obligations after that, they have to 'pay' it back ie join the service
