Supposedly based loosely on the Odyssey, but one could also note resemblances to Xenophon's Anabasis, usually translated as "The March ot the Ten Thousand".

The film was an adaptation of Sol Yurick’s novel The Warriors which was based on Anabasis, not The Odyssey. In the novel, there is no gang called the Warriors. The main gang is the Dominators.

Thanks. That makes more sense. Also, the film "O Brother ,Where Art Thou?" was supposedly based on the Odyssey but the Coen brothers admitted they never read the Odyssey but did read the Classic Comics version.

My parents were very strict about which movies we were allowed to rent, but didn’t care what books we’d check out from the library. So while I didn’t actually see The Warriors film until I was in college, I read the book in seventh grade. The book is bleaker than the movie. I have not read Anabasis.

Classic Comics version or not, O Brother Where Art Thou is a great telling of the Odyssey.
