Mark May looked devastated when reporting this at halftime of the LSU/Tech game;)

Yeah. I don't think he's a Clemson homer. But he surely is like I am when Texas plays. I like the other guys. When OU plays, he loves the other guys. One of the sweetest things about the win over Bama two years ago was May having to eat his pregame prediction. But it's more than that.

He is an apologist against anything OU. And secondarily the Big XII. It's why he got promoted at ESPN.

The thing is, I don't think some of them might remember that they're not just going to be tested for PED's. They're going to also be tested for recreational drugs. For some of them, stopping is really tough. It's called addition.

There is that Two and a Half Men episode when Jake has a big test coming up, and decides that he is going to pray for a catastrophic weather event, like an earthquake, rather than study. Some guys who aren't the best college students have a similar mentality in NCAA drug testing.

Clemson guy here. It's a backup tight-end (McCullough), our KO / XP kicker (Lakip), and #2-3 WR (Cain, 5-star true freshman). Cain has really blown up the last half dozen games or so as a big deep threat for us. We are extremely deep at WR talent so while Cain is a 'flashy' loss, the loss of Lakip who has our longest leg for KOs will be tougher to replace.

It isn't confirmed yet if it was an NCAA drug test that was failed. Dabo runs a tight ship so I personally wouldn't be surprised if it was a team test or follow-up from a prior issue.

It's disappointing, but I've developed complete faith in Dabo's approach in recruiting, developing, and disciplining players. I'm not really concerned about the direct impact to the game as much as the distraction to the team. Less than 48 hours to regain that quiet confidence.

Here's to a great game, no injuries, and may the victor win it all in Arizona!

Is it possible that this was an NCAA test and Clemson has known about it for weeks and just now is releasing it because it might change how OU would prepare? Has it been confirmed that the players have been there all along?

It doesn't make a lot of sense that test results would come out for all three, just three days before the game, unless these players are subject to special, frequent some sort of short interval required testing.

Also wonder if these might be guys who were required to do regular testing because of some sort of drug rehab after previous drug use, and they did like Josh Hamilton did and just drank a beer and it came up in a test. Because drug counseling requires abstinence from even that.

Not seeing the angle in your first paragraph, Plaino. Not when we're talking about only one real impact player here. The long ball pass attempts will suffer a bit with Deon Cain being out.

My opinion is that this was a team-conducted test sometime over the holiday. Doesn't make sense to sit on an NCAA mandated test - because of the penalty involved (1 year for 'street drugs', just like PEDs). Sitting on those results could also bring into jeopardy any games won when those players walked on the field.

Your last point - very well could be for atleast one of these guys. The kicker (stronger leg on KOs, but a true headcase at FGs....so he was jumped by the other guy at that position) has somewhat of a sketchy back story. Busted over the summer for another drug offense, and sat out three games because of it. Lots of grumblings that might not have been his only offense too (before this latest thing). He's an RS Senior. Buh-bye - ceremonial boot from the team, at this point.

And black helicopters have been flying over OU's practices, right?

22, like your new avatar. You need to post the video as the picture doesn't do it justice. I had it saved for awhile, but lost it......I'm glad the dog lived.........

Fans will be fans, totally expected this type of a response to your suspended 5* wideout. He was a starter for a reason so I don't buy the extremely talented WR comment. It's nothing more than fandom speak. Losing this kid might not be a deal breaker but it will hurt.

No, Clemson won't miss a step.

Just like OU, they're a hydra headed monster that can plug and play talented guys in and keep on keeping on.
Otherwise they wouldn't be 13 and naught.

I'll add to this by saying that weed has a life in one's body for approx. 30 days. One can test a hair follicle for weed. Using Cocaine as an example, it has a shelf life in the body of approx. 72 hrs. There is a huge difference and weed hangs around for a long time which can & does get people in trouble 3 to 4 weeks after the pleasure. I'm not saying this happened in this case, but it & does happen more frequently than we think.

I'm thinking that if Dabo knew the results earlier, he would not have even allowed them to travel to Miami. I think this was a test that has occurred since the team arrived to Miami which most likely means it was a NCAA bowl testing requirement.

Yep, cannabis hangs in your fat cells for a duration.

Reminds me of a sketch someone did about a guy getting a follicle test. The punch line was the examiner, after looking at the results said...
"Well, I see you were at Woodstock and California Jam".

Yep, don't they do a comprehensive 10 panel, plus a separate tests for PEDs?

I know it's pretty inclusive, much like the DOT does on freakin' airline pilots.
All your little indulgences revealed.

Could be for sure. Could've been a team-test in advance of the random testing that the NCAA does as well. Read somewhere they choose 18 per team and randomly test for all championships....either before, during, or post-game.

No telling for now - the two older kids are bye bye definitely. The freshman has been given the 'go home, think about it, forget about spring, and we'll talk about you rejoining the team in the fall'.

Wasn't a starter, but yep, it's gonna hurt the long ball. There is no question.

Deon Cain was a good contributor and came on strong later in the season, but was not a starter. For sure I'd love to have him in the rotation tomorrow...my point was just to add some color around Lakip's role that Oklahoma folks might not otherwise appreciate.

But yes losing Cain hurts, just like losing Mike Williams in our first series of the season hurt. But again if there is one position we can absorb losses with talented depth it is WR.

Cain wasn't the starter, but got tons of reps. Clemson rolls the WRs 2 and 3 deep routinely. Kid had TDs in each of the last 5 games.
In fact, the word "starter" doesn't really mean much for MOST positions on Clemsons team. Dabo is a huge believer in substituting liberally.

What kind of a world are we living in when kickers are testing positive for cocaine? Twice...

Maybe not in the eyes of the law, but in reality, coke is a gozillion times worse than whacky backy.

Not even close.
That possession of pot is considered a more serious offense than possession of blow is preposterous. (in most jurisdictions)

Oh, I'm not debating the uselessness/usefullness of drug laws.........what I'm saying is, normally kickers are the nerds on the team. Hell, they aren't even real football players...who the hell is giving a kicker coke? And why?

I get that.
I just got on my soapbox about the ridiculous nature of drug laws.

Yep, kickers are the Owls of college football, the nerds, as you say among the Eagles.
