Phenix City (Ala.) Central three-star safety Red Morgan has flipped his commitment from Florida State to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Morgan had previously been committed to the Seminoles since the Fourth of July, but opted to take an unofficial visit to Alabama at the end of July for the Tide’s Champions Cook-Out and announced his flip to the in-state powerhouse today.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder is the No. 489 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 46 safety and No. 26 player from Alabama.

“I’m not going to lie, it was a good experience,” Morgan told BamaOnLine after the visit. “What stood out was sitting in the meeting with Coach [Travaris Robinson] talking about how he would use me and how much I would benefit Alabama’s defense.”

Morgan’s relationship with Robinson helped seal the flip for the Tide, as did the program’s long-standing success with defensive backs and getting players into the NFL.

“The history behind Alabama,” Morgan said. “How many DBs they produce where they get to the league every year. Also, the guys they’ve got on NFL rosters right now. They’re going to get you to where you want to get to.”

Alabama adds another DB to top-three class

The addition of Morgan bumps Alabama up one spot to No. 3 in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings, surpassing Florida. The Crimson Tide now have 17 total commits in the 2024 cycle, 12 of whom are blue-chip recruits.

Morgan is Alabama’s second DB flip in as many days. Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star safety Peyton Woodyard, the No. 86 overall prospect and No. 4 safety in the nation, flipped from Georgia to the Tide on Tuesday.

Bama’s class continues to load up on talent in the secondary. Morgan is the fourth DB to join the fray, alongside Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star cornerback Zabien Brown, Woodyard and Tampa Catholic four-star CB Jameer Grimsley.
