The Alabama Crimson Tide made a big move at wide receiver in the transfer portal last season with Jameson Williams from Ohio State. On Sunday, they pulled in another elite receiver but this time, it was from a major SEC rival.

Georgia’s Jermaine Burton announced he would be transferring to Alabama on Sunday afternoon. After being on the winning side of the national championship during the 2021 season, Burton will now be trying to get revenge on his former team with the Crimson Tide.

According to the On3 Transfer Rankings, Burton is ranked as the No. 5 player currently in the NCAA Transfer Portal in the current cycle.

Burton had 53 career receptions with Georgia, accumulating 901 receiving yards and eight touchdowns with four carries for 50 yards. He was the second-leading receiver for the Bulldogs last season, working well with quarterback Stetson Bennett. Now, he will have Heisman Trophy winner Byrce Young throwing the passes.

After Burton entered the transfer portal, Chris Hummer of 247Sports reported Alabama could be a possible destination. Two other SEC programs were mentioned as well, including LSU and Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide were able to win out for the talented wide receiver.

Coming out of high school, Burton was a four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus. Alabam did originally offer the wide receiver from the state of California, where he ranked at No. 16 nationally for his position.

Jermaine Burton not the only addition for Alabama via SEC rival

New Alabama defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson made the move official on Friday, tweeting a new profile picture and breaking Alabama-Auburn rivalry barriers with a hashtag and emoji.

#RollTide,” Robinson tweeted, also adding an elephant emoji.

The simple acknowledgment of his new employment broke hearts as he crosses sides in one of college football’s most heated rivalries. The former Auburn defensive back is now part of the Crimson Tide.

Travaris Robinson was a first team All-SEC nominee as a senior at Auburn in 2002, defeated Alabama in the Iron Bowl. He went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft but ended up with the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers that year.

He quickly jumped to college coaching in 2006 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before bouncing around to Western Kentucky, Southern Mississippi and Texas Tech before 2010. That’s when he landed at Florida from 2011-14 as defensive backs coach and worked with future NFL talent like Marcus Maye, Keanu Neal and more.

After a one season back at Auburn in 2015, Robinson moved to South Carolina as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2016-20, coaching Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu before arriving at Miami in 2021.
