A Twitter feud has broken out between two former Alabama Crimson Tide football quarterbacks. Late Tuesday night, David Cornwell replied to a tweet with a picture of both him and Blake Barnett celebrating the 2015 national championship in Tuscaloosa. Cornwell said Barnett, a former On3 Consensus five-star prospect, “really didn’t have much talent.”

Barnett decided to respond to this claim from his former teammate on Wednesday morning and did not seem particularly thrilled about getting called out.

“From breaking into my dorm and trashing my room (multiple times) to trashing me on social media,” Barnett said. “Glad to see you’ve become more secure in yourself. Hope all is well with you too Davey.”

Cornwell defended himself in a reply tweet, saying there was no “trashing” of Barnett’s room, just some “water ballooning” between the two quarterbacks. Although, he did go on to admit that his opinion “doesn’t really matter.”

From there, Cornwell took it even a step further. He said Barnett tried to present a binder full of allegations in an attempt to transfer out of the Alabama program. Cornwell ended the tweet with “I’ll leave it at that,” possibly putting an end to the Twitter exchange.

“Is handing over a binder of team “allegations” to the NCAA, so you can transfer without penalty trashing a program? Asking for a friend. I’ll leave it at that.”

Barnett went on to deny what Cornwell accused him of, calling them “fabricate stories.” He also went on to say that he is not trying to go “back and forth” with anybody on social media or “throw stones on Twitter” The former Alabama quarterback cites still having a good relationship with former players and coaches.

Between the two quarterbacks, Barnett and Cornwell were on campus in Tuscaloosa for a total of five seasons and were teammates for four of them. While the latter never attempted a pass for the Crimson Tide, Barnett went 11 of 19 for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions during the 2016 season. Jake Coker eventually took over, leading the Alabama Crimson Tide to a national championship appearance.

Barnett went on to transfer twice during his college football career, first to Arizona State. He spent the 2017 season in Tempe, only attempting five passes. South Florida was the next stop where the former five-star was the full-time starter in 2018. His final season in 2019 only saw six appearances.

Cornwell eventually transferred to Nevada after being a four-star prospect coming out of high school. He played for one season, throwing three interceptions on 25 passing attempts.
