Even after their season ended, the Alabama softball team took time to thank the fanbase. Following a 6-0 regional loss against Stanford in a win-or-go-home situation, every player gathered in front of the dugout to perform the signature postgame chant with the supporters who stayed behind them.

The chant was kickstarted by graduating senior Kaylee Tow, who was the only player recognized by the Crimson Tide on senior day this season. After hugging teammates and coaches, the three-time All-American screamed, “ALA,” before the fans responded, “BAMA.”

The tradition has continued over many years both during and after games at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The group of Alabama softball fans known as the Rhoads Ragers is led by superfan and former Alabama women’s soccer player Emily Pitek, and always makes an effort to fill the bleachers and outfield with supporters throughout the season.

Stanford upsets Alabama

Stanford was sporting a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning before Sydnee Huff was able to clear the bases and extend their lead. Playing in a hostile environment at Rhodes Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Huff’s clutch play came as a shock to the Crimson Tide faithful. Another run was added, making the score 6-0.

For Alabama, it is the first time the program has failed to get out of their regional ever. Head coach Patrick Murphy has brought a tradition of winning to Tuscaloosa but will not appear in the Women’s College World Series this year.

Stanford head coach Jessica Allister has been with the program for five years now, making the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons. However, this is the first time the Cardinal has been able to advance under her watch. If they can win their Super Regional, Stanford would travel to Oklahoma City and participate in the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2004.
