Alabama backup quarterback Jalen Milroe took center stage this weekend for the Crimson Tide, as he was called upon in the second quarter of their game versus Arkansas to fill in for an injured Bryce Young in the second quarter. Milroe was under the center for the Crimson Tide for the rest of the game, leading them to a 49-26 victory.

Milroe was efficient for Alabama during his snaps, with his biggest play being on a 3rd & 15 in the fourth quarter where he scrambled for a 77-yard run that put the Crimson Tide on the Arkansas three-yard line, quickly leading to a Jase McClellan touchdown run.

“The biggest thing was just looking at the chains, seeing what the best thing I could do for the team and I was able to use my legs on that play,” Milroe said. “But if it wasn’t for the offensive line to make a hole for me it wouldn’t have been possible, so it all came down to the offense as a whole, all eleven guys stepping up and allowing that play to happen.”

Milroe spoke more on his thought process during his touchdown run and what was going through his mind during his biggest play so far in an Alabama uniform.

“One I passed the line of scrimmage I was just trying to get the first down, then I saw, my eyes got big, I said alright let me try to score,” Milroe explained.

Milroe, unfortunately, did not score and was just three yards short of scoring before being caught just short of the end zone, which he was also inquired about, as a reporter asked him when the last time he lost a foot race was.

“I don’t even know,” Milrow laughed and said. “I was shocked.”

Milroe didn’t find the end zone on that play, but found it on two other occasions Saturday, ending the game completing four of his nine pass attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown, along with 91 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.

“It was a big time for the game, just trying to do what’s best for the team” Milroe said. “And that was a play that took all eleven guys on that play to keep the driving running, because Arkansas was bringing it to us, so the biggest thing was just trying to take advantage of that play and all of our eleven guys just took advantage of that play and we were able to execute.”

The Crimson Tide are hoping to get Young back for their next matchup versus Texas A&M, but if he’s not available, they’ll definitely be relying on Milroe to make some more explosive plays for them against the Aggies.
