Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School four-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson has been a Tennessee baseball pledge for the last two years. For a majority of his high school career, Jefferson saw a future for himself in Knoxville.

Then Alabama got involved and Jefferson started to see a future for himself playing for Nick Saban Tuscaloosa.

Jefferson notes that once Alabama offered in March is when they got involved. Five months later Jefferson decided that the future in Tuscaloosa was what he wanted. He made that official on Saturday choosing Alabama over Georgia and Tennessee.

“When I got that offer, I knew it was huge,” Jefferson told On3. “Alabama’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest offer in the country. After that offer, I felt like Alabama was the place for me. It was close to Georgia in the beginning, but I just got the feeling that this feels like home.”

Jefferson excited to join Alabama’s rich history of receivers

Growing up Jefferson wasn’t really an Alabama fan. Instead he didn’t really like the Crimson Tide as he was a die-hard LSU fan.

Even though he wasn’t much of a fan, Jefferson watched year in and year out as the Crimson Tide sent receivers to NFL. From Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, DeVonta Smith and Jerry Jeudy, Jefferson watched as those guys won several awards and become first-round draft picks.

“You really don’t know until you see it,” said Jefferson, the No. 103 player in the 2024 On300. “You see those past guys winning Biletnikoff and the Heisman, it’s something you wonder what it looks like at that level.”

In his talks with Nick Saban and Alabama receivers coach Holmon Wiggins, Jefferson noted that they compared him to a bigger, faster John Metchie.

Between comparison in mind and the history he was already aware of, Jefferson knew he wanted add his chapter to that lineage.

“Knowing the rich tradition at receiver and that they can take my game to the next level and help me become a pro sold me on Alabama,” Jefferson said. “The culture that Coach Saban’s built and the winning tradition they have, it’s always been of interest to me.

…When I talk to them they tell me to come be a big-time playmaker in this 2024 class and help get the receiver room back on track. They’re going to put me in position to do the things that are needed. I can come in and keep the tradition of WRU going.”
