Alabama’s sophomore quarterback Bryce Young has emerged as the Heisman favorite late this season. Despite continued struggles within the run game, Young has provided the Alabama offense with consistency throughout the season. After receiving high praise from his coach, teammates are now jumping in to commend their quarterback.

Senior running back Brian Robinson joined Bryce Young on stage following Alabama’s 59-3 rout of New Mexico State. When asked about Young’s development over the past two seasons, the veteran – who has played with Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones – offered many compliments.

“Bryce had to really step into some big shoes, and he’s been doing a great job of that,” Robinson told reporters during Saturday’s postgame press conference. “It’s not easy to step up as a starting quarterback – and for as a early as it is in his career – he’s been doing a great job. Just being where his feet are and trusting everything that comes with this program. And stepping up, being a voice, and going out on the field playing like a leader so other people can reflect off that.

Bryce Young smiled through the entire answer, laughing as he reached out to fist bump Brian Robinson.

The former five-star recruit and California native has burst onto the scene, throwing for 3,025 yards with 33 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has a completion percentage of 71 and 179.9 passer efficiency rating.

Nick Saban on Bryce Young

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is happy with the progress he has seen this season from quarterback Bryce Young. Young has played himself into being a contender for postseason honors in his first year as Alabama’s starting quarterback. Saban called his quarterback competitive, and that his improvement throughout the year has been notable.

“Bryce is a really competitive guy who really works hard,” Saban said of Young. “He wants to get it right. Always works hard at preparing the right way. He’s a pretty consistent performer in practice each and every day. Uses every opportunity to try to get better. Never been disappointed in the way he played from the first game right up until now.

“But he has improved and I think his confidence and experience and playing with the new players that we have on offense, all those things have contributed to that development. Hopefully we’re going to continue to do that as we go through each and every one of these games to finish the season.”
