Alabama defensive lineman Byron Young was in just as much disbelief as everyone else watching when Tennessee offensive tackle Jeremiah Crawford vomited on the field in Saturday’s game.

Video of the incident went viral on Twitter, as Crawford appeared to stare down Young afterward. In a press conference Tuesday, Young explained the backstory behind the strange moment, including what he said to Crawford after.

“We were actually talking right before he threw up,” Young said. “I don’t remember what we were talking about, but then he looked away for a second and he just threw up. I just told him he was nasty. Then I just looked to the sideline. That was all it was.”

Tennessee’s Jeremiah Crawford uses vomiting to psych out Alabama, Byron Young

The hilarious moment seemed to catch Young’s reaction perfectly, with him looking right at Crawford as he vomited on the field. Crawford noticed him and proceeded to go full-football tough guy mode and nodded his head to show he was ready to go again. Young appeared to look to his side to see if anyone else saw the interaction, but neither player had time to continue as the huddle broke and they returned to the line of scrimmage.

Tennessee’s incredibly up-tempo offense has caused multiple players throughout the season to feel the strain of playing so many plays, but seeing one of the Volunteers’ own players need a moment to recover was a great look at how tough the toll of their speed can be. Tennessee’s offense lived up to the challenge on Saturday though, taking down No. 3 Alabama to establish themselves as a top-five team in the nation.

On the field, the fans were given plenty to cheer about early on with the Volunteers building a 28-10 lead early in the second quarter. From there, former Heisman-winner Bryce Young stabilized Alabama and even jumped out to a lead in the second half. With the game tied at 42-42, Alabama picked up a fumbled handoff by Hendon Hooker and scored a defensive touchdown to take a seven-point lead.

Tennessee’s following possession nearly ended in disaster after a pass from Hooker was tipped and intercepted by Alabama in the end zone — only to get a second chance after a pass interference call against Alabama’s defense. With a second chance, Hooker delivered a touchdown strike to Jalin Hyatt for their fifth touchdown pass and catch of the game — a school record for Hyatt.

Alabama will hope to get back on track when it faces No. 24 Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
