Former Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder shared a wild story from his rookie year when he brought Nick Saban a stripper for a talent show. Crowder was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Florida, and as part of their rookie talent show during the preseason he pranked his new coach. Saban had taken over as head coach of the Dolphins in 2005, having coached at LSU prior.

Crowder brought Nick Saban to the front of the room during the talent show and as “thanks” for giving him a chance in the NFL, he tricked him into the not-family friendly entertainment. Crowder shared the story while discussing Jamarcus Russell’s controversial rookie talent show antics on The Pivot Podcast.

The conversation drifted to rookie talent shows when Russell was asked about trouble he got in as a rookie during his Oakland Raiders talent show. Russell explained that he had 53 teammates, so he put $5,300 in a bag and went in front of his team at the talent show. While music played, Russell threw money at his teammates instead of doing a performance.

Immediately after admitting the story was true, Russell quickly asked Crowder how it was fair when he did something much wilder.

“I brought in a stripper and had them dance for Nick Saban,” said Crowder matter-of-factly when Russell asked what he did.

“I brought strippers in the Dolphins facility,” he explained. “She walked in with nothing but a thong on and a Jason Taylor jersey and she went up there — Nick Saban was on a chair. And she went up there and shook it for Nick Saban.”

Crowder went on to share some more intimate and inappropriate details about the moment as he laughed at the memory, indicating that Saban and the Dolphins enjoyed the prank.

“You got in trouble for throwing $5,000,” said Crowder in disbelief after sharing his story.

After hearing Crowder’s wild story, it’s no surprise that Russell felt like people should have given him a break for throwing money at his show. Nick Saban would serve as the Dolphins head coach for two seasons, making the switch to Alabama in 2007 where he established himself as one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football.
