Pete Nakos On How Alabama Can Rebuild Roster In Spring Time After Losing Nick Saban Continuity | 01.21.24

Alabama Crimson Tide edge rusher Chris Braswell is among the last group of Alabama players to enter the NFL only having Nick Saban for a head coach in Tuscaloosa.

Saban, who will go down as one of the greatest coaches in history, always left an incredible impact on those players who came through his program and Braswell is no different. While preparing for the NFL at the Senior Bowl, Braswell shared the biggest lesson that Saban taught him.

“Coach Saban, he’s a great coach,” Chris Braswell said. “One thing that I learned from him is doing all the right things when no one is looking. Everybody can do all of the right things when you have the cameras and everything on you, but behind closed doors are you still going to do those right things? So, that’s one of the biggest things that I learned from him is just working hard even when no one is looking.”

The ability to consistently do the right thing was incredibly important to Nick Saban’s success as a coach and being able to take that lesson seriously will help a player like Chris Braswell succeed at the NFL level.

For now, though, Braswell impressed during the Senior Bowl. He was measured at 6-3, 257, giving him good size to be an NFL linebacker. He also stood out on the first day thanks to his play on the field, according to draft analyst Lance Zierlein.

“While he still has some things to prove as a run defender,” Zeirlien wrote, “he was extremely physical at the point of attack in run drills against offensive linemen. And (he) ran Houston’s Patrick Paul back into the pocket with a big bull rush early in the rush segment of practice. Alabama edge defenders are always well-schooled, but the aggression from Braswell really stood out.”

Bryce Young cites biggest traits learned from Nick Saban

All Alabama players know that there were key traits to learn from Nick Saban, which many carry into the NFL. That includes former first overall pick, Bryce Young.

“Probably the two biggest things that I always talk about that I take from him in all aspects of my life is his consistency and accountability,” Young said.

“How consistent he is, obviously you know he’s the same person every single day as far as demanding the best out of himself out of us. Same person when he walks into the building. How hard he works. Obviously, there’s no change in week-to-week how he coaches us, whether it’s the Iron Bowl or it’s whoever we’re playing, or whether it’s an FCS team. He’s that same consistency and you can expect he’s not gonna let anything slide whether it’s summer or the day before the national championship. Like, that consistency is something that in all aspects of life I’ve definitely learned from.”
