Former Alabama guard John Petty arrested for DUI, attempting to elude police

Former Alabama guard John Petty was arrested on four counts including driving under the influence and attempting to elude a police officer on Saturday night in north Alabama.

A Madison County Sheriff’s Office booking record shows that Petty was booked at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.

He was charged with a felony for attempting to elude a police officer, as well as misdemeanor driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Total bond for Petty was set at $7,300, according to the booking record.

According to the booking record, Petty was released at 1:09 a.m. on Sunday.

John Petty played for Alabama for four years, suiting up from 2017-21. He was a productive player, averaging double-digit scoring in each of his four seasons with the Crimson Tide.

Petty picked up a ton of accolades during his four-year career, too. He was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2021 and a second-team All-SEC selection in 2020. He earned SEC Player of the Week honors three times, while earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice.

He is the current school record holder for career 3-pointers made, with 311. He’s also the school record holder for career 3-pointers attempted, with 814.

Twice during his career he set single-game school records by knocking down 10 3-pointers in a game, doing so against Alabama A&M in 2017 and Samford in 2019.

He finished his career with 1,539 points, ranking 16th in program history. His 131 career games played are the eighth most by an Alabama player.

Petty averaged 10.2 points per game during both his freshman and sophomore years, while he averaged 14.5 points as a junior and 12.6 points as a senior.

He was a good rebounder, too, averaging 4.5 rebounds per game during his career. He also averaged 2.0 assists per game in his career.
