Former Ole Miss star backs Alabama’s Jordan Battle in big way
Former Ole Miss star receiver Elijah Moore chimed in on a debate by declaring his support for Alabama defensive back Jordan Battle. In a debate asking who the best cornerback is in college football, Moore chose Battle over Penn State’s Jaquan Brisker and Texas A&M’s Antonio Johnson.
Elijah Moore picks Alabama’s Jordan Battle
In a Twitter post asking fans who they would pick for their secondary, the three options presented were Battle, Brisker and Johnson. In a simple response, Moore confidently declared his pick of the three young stars.
Simply stating Battle’s number, it’s clear who Moore is watching out for as he navigates his rookie season in the NFL. Moore was drafted in the second round by the New York Jets and has become a powerful weapon in their offense following the team’s bye week.
In the past five weeks of NFL action, Moore has recorded five receiving touchdowns and has gained 392 yards receiving. The rookie has even contributed a rushing touchdown on the year after rushing for a 19-yard touchdown against the New England Patriots.
His former SEC rival school Alabama has caught Moore’s eye though, as Battle has been a major piece of the Crimson Tide’s defense this season. The junior defensive back has two interceptions returned for touchdowns on the season. Adding to another one during his sophomore season, Battle now has returned three interceptions for touchdowns in his career.
Battle’s three interceptions total is a career high for him as he leads the conference in return yards on those interceptions. Battle has seen an increase in his ability to make plays around the field as well, with a career high 74 tackles.
While all three cornerbacks given as choices can make a case for their selection this season, the list didn’t include the Jim Thorpe award winner. Coby Bryant of Cincinnati ended up being named the best defensive back in college football this season. But only Jordan Battle received the public support of an NFL rookie that has first-hand knowledge of his talent.
