Just two weeks after committing to Texas A&M, Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff cornerback Jayvon Thomas has picked up a major offer in his recruitment. On Wednesday, Alabama extended an offer to the four-star pledge.

Thomas is the No. 79 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 cornerback and the No. 15 junior in the state of Texas.

As a junior, Thomas recorded 30 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and two passes deflected in seven games, helping South Oak Cliff to a historic state championship. He contributed on the offensive side of the ball as well, rushing for 75 yards and one touchdown.

Jayvon Thomas made a surprise commitment to Texas A&M

Thomas received an offer from the Aggies a little more than three months ago and was planning to take his time with his recruitment. He tripped to College Station late last month and then visited LSU two weeks later. He was set to see Texas but ultimately canceled that visit and committed to the Aggies.

“The facilities: awesome. The coaching staff: top notch,” his father, Joe, told AggieScoop after the visit. “I was always surround myself with first class and they have proven themselves time and time again to us that they are first class. … You got everything you want right there at Texas A&M. The grades, the play, exposure, the best conference… it hit a lot of checkpoints that we were looking for.”

Thomas is the 17th cornerback Alabama has offered in the 2023 class. And the offer comes soon after a recent prediction that the Tide’s No. 1 target at the position, Five-Star Plus+ prospect Cormani McClain, is leaning toward SEC rival Florida.
