Honest Look at Alabama

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe has come a long way this season. A huge part of that has been his willingness to get coached by the staff at Alabama. It’s a staff, led by head coach Nick Saban, that Milroe praised.

Nick Saban is one of the greatest coaches in college football history. This season at Alabama, has been one of the best, if not the best that he’s had.

“The biggest thing as players that we can do best is be coachable,” Jalen Milroe said. “Coach Saban, the biggest thing I want to do is be a sponge for all information because end of the day all of our coaches are pushing us to be successful.”

After losing to Texas, Milroe found himself on the bench for the USF game. To get where he is now, leading the Crimson Tide into the College Football Playoff, is proof enough of the incredible job that the staff has done in Tuscaloosa this season.

“To speak about our coaching staff, man, they push us every single day. We set short-term and long-term goals before the season started. We have to be coachable, be receptive to all coaches. Find ways to improve and get 1% better each and every day.”

For his part, Nick Saban deflected credit for the season on his coaching staff.

“I think our coaches did a fantastic job with these players,” Saban said. “Fantastic job of helping guys develop and improve. I really appreciate our staff of people who contributed to the success of this team. It’s not about me. It’s about everybody on the team who contributed to the success of this team: players and coaches alike.”

Nick Saban reveals what’s made 2023 Alabama squad ‘a lot of fun to coach’

For how incredible most people consider the job that Nick Saban has done at Alabama this season to be, Saban himself has considered this an incredibly fun team to coach.

“I think the big thing is, because we got off to a rough start, the team had something to prove. So, what’s been the case for us in many years of the past is… there’s such a high expectation and a high level in the beginning that creates a lot of anxiety for people to try to satisfy those expectations, which takes some of the fun out of it,” Saban said.

“What this year’s team has been is a lot of fun to coach, because everybody was sort of out to try to prove something, so everybody was working, getting better, we had great team chemistry. There was a lot of positive energy internally on the team to, you know, inspire other people to do well, and everybody was willing to put the work in and make the commitment to do the things that we needed to do.”
