Alabama sealed the deal last night to make their 14th appearance in the Women’s College World Series. They did so with a 3-2 win over Northwestern and, after the victory, Montana Fouts said it was the culmination of the ride that the Crimson Tide have been on all season long.

Fouts spoke on the ‘roller coaster’ that she and her teammates have been on which now has them heading to Oklahoma City. She said they’ve just tried to enjoy the ups and downs that have come with it while also remaining grateful, faithful, and confident during the process.

“(It was) a roller coaster,” Fouts said. “We’ve done everything on that roller coaster to stay grateful for what we have here, the people we have. Our whole season has just been about trust and keeping faith.”

“I’m really thankful that God put us in a situation with each other to be here. To just give everything we have. It’s been awesome,” said Fouts. “We went through a lot of adversity. But I think that’s what makes us special and that’s what makes us great. It’s why we love each other so much.”

Alabama went 3-1 in the Tuscaloosa Regional to advance to this past weekend. Then, against the Wildcats in the Super Regional, they had to come back from a game down to win the series. After dropping Friday’s contest by a score of 3-1, they handled their business on the weekend with a 2-1 win on Saturday and their 3-2 win on Sunday.

Fouts was great again in her appearance in relief. She picked up her 25th win of the season and, in total, earned the 100th victory of her career. After working her way back from injury to get to this point, her 3.2 innings of work were a fantastic way to cap off her career inside of Rhoads Stadium.

Still, the Tide’s roller coaster isn’t over just yet. Fouts and Alabama, now at 45-20, have come a long way to get here. To keep their wheels rolling toward a title, though, they’ll need to be ready for an SEC bout with Tennessee once they arrive in OKC later this week.

Fouts secures final out to send Alabama to Women’s College World Series

Montana Fouts found herself needing just one more out to send Alabama to the Women’s College World Series. The Crimson Tide were up 3-2 in the seventh against Northwestern in the third game of a Super Regional series. That’s when Hannah Cady stepped up to the plate looking to keep the Wildcats alive.

Already a tense moment, the at-bat grew even more suspenseful as Cady reached a full count. That’s when Fouts rose to the occasion and delivered a pitch that Cady swung and missed at. Afterward, her teammates rushed to celebrate with her. It was well deserved too as Alabama became the eighth team to punch its ticket to Oklahoma City.
