Alabama pitcher Montana Fouts threw a perfect game Sunday afternoon as the Crimson Tide defeated Longwood by a score of 8-0 in six innings. It was the eighth perfect game in school history and the third for Fouts in her career.

Fouts struck out 14 batters on the day to improve to 9-1 on the season. The run rule win was the first game of a doubleheader for Alabama, which went on to defeat Mercer 8-0 in the second contest to improve its season record to 17-3.

The other two perfect games of Montana Fouts’ career against Alabama State on Feb. 21, 2021 and in a 2021 Women’s College World Series game against UCLA. With her 14 strikeouts on Sunday, Fouts now has 965 for her career and is sure to become the fifth Crimson Tide player to break 1,000 this season.

“It felt pretty good,” Fouts said postgame. “We had the opportunity to play the same teams multiple times this weekend and that is what it’s going to be like when we get to SEC play, regionals, super regionals and the WCWS. I went into today’s game with a postseason mindset. My defense had my back and we scored a bunch of runs. It was just an overall good day for us.”

Fouts has now throw for 25 consecutive scoreless innings, a new career high. Alabama has thrown for 38 consecutive scoreless innings as a team and shut out opponents in six straight games.

The Crimson Tide entered this week at No. 9 in the country and proved themselves deserving of that spot with their impressive play. Alabama is set to begin SEC play in a little less than two weeks against Arkansas on March 18. Next up, however, is a contest against Western Michigan on Tuesday.
