As Alabama gets ready for what Nick Saban called its “toughest challenge of the year” vs. Arkansas, the Crimson Tide are hoping to get two pieces back from injury. Jordan Battle and Byron Young both suffered injuries during last week’s game against Vanderbilt, and Saban provided updates on both players.

Battle headed to the injury tent late in the game while appearing to grab at his hamstring while Young suffered a sprained ankle. Saban said both players were out at practice on Wednesday, but he wasn’t ready to declare a status for this week’s matchup against Arkansas as both players are still day to day.

“Both guys practiced some today,” Saban said during his Wednesday press conference. “Hopefully, they’ll both be ready for the game, but it’s day-to-day. When you have these kinds of injuries, it’s always how do they feel the next day, so we’ll see how it goes tomorrow.”

Battle has 14 tackles for Alabama this year while Young has nine tackles to go with 2.0 tackles for loss and half a sack to his name. They could be key contributors against a tough Arkansas team Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Nick Saban sends heartfelt message of support to Florida, everyone impacted by Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian made landfall on Wednesday, making its way up the Florida peninsula. Support continues to roll in for people in the storm’s path — and when a reporter asked Alabama coach Nick Saban if he reached out to anyone he knows there, he shared a personal connection.

“How about it’s hitting right on my house?” Saban responded.

That means Saban can empathize with people bracing for the impact of the hurricane, which was a Category 4 when it reached Florida Wednesday afternoon. Nonetheless, he’s hoping for a best-case scenario for everyone involved.

“My thoughts and prayers are out to everybody that’s in this situation, but we certainly feel it, too,” Saban said during his Wednesday press conference. “So, we have not only a lot of respect, admiration and compassion for the people who are affected by this all over the state of Florida, but because we feel the pain, as well. We’re just hopeful that nobody gets injured and everybody is safe and the damage is not too devastating.”
