Paul Finebaum shared some of his inside information on Tuesday as he shared personal conversations about Alabama‘s upcoming season. According to Finebaum, a recent event he attended gave him a chance to speak with people connected to Alabama — where they shared that head coach Nick Saban is as optimistic about this year’s team as any he’s ever had.

Paul Finebaum says Saban is optimistic for Alabama’s season

“I’m a little more upbeat today than I was even yesterday,” said Finebaum about Alabama’s chances for an undefeated season. “Spending the night in Birmingham the last night, being around a lot of Alabama people at this event, people that were at practice the other day. There’s a high optimism there, and I think sometimes you can hear that, but I’m hearing a specific improvement.

“And I did speak to some people that are involved with the university in a significant fashion at this gathering yesterday. This is not just hype, this is legit. The word is — Saban is about as upbeat on this team as he’s been on any team in a number of years.”

Every season is a fresh chance for fans and analysts to break down Alabama’s schedule and chance at winning a national title, but Finebaum seems to believe that Saban expects great things this season — even with his already high standards.

The conversation came up on the Paul Finebaum Show after guest Stephen A. Smith and Finebaum discussed the chances for an undefeated year for the Crimson Tide. According to Finebaum it’s hard to predict anyone going undefeated, but the optimism around this season is not unwarranted if Saban is a trusted source.

Apparently, Saban isn’t the only one high on the talent at Alabama this season either. The 2022 All-SEC Coaches Football team was revealed on Tuesday, and the 14 coaches of the conference voted six players from the Crimson Tide to the first team. Alabama led all teams with players on the first team, with reigning national champions Georgia following them with four.
