Those in Tuscaloosa were able to take in some Alabama softball on Saturday, with the Crimson Tide facing off against South Carolina. One of the program’s all-time greats was able to show her dominance again, throwing a no-hitter. Montana Fouts has been the face of head coach Patrick Murphy’s squad and proved to be once again against the Gamecocks.

Fouts pitched all seven innings, allowing just three base runners. Two South Carolina batters were able to draw walks while Fouts did hit someone. She struck out 10 batters en route to her no-hitter. It’s the 44th in program history for Alabama, making for a historic day at the ballpark.

However, Fouts was not too interested in her personal accomplishment. As Alabama got the 4-0 win, there was another game to play in a doubleheader. Fouts wanted to go out there and get another SEC win, encouraging her teammates during the celebration.

“Alright, let’s win again,” Fouts said. “Let’s go. Let’s do it again.”

Fouts is no stranger to dominating in the circle, with Saturday being her second no-hitter of the 2023 season. She has been dominating ever since arriving in Tuscaloosa and was just continuing her greatness against South Carolina.

As Fouts mentioned, Alabama will be back on the diamond soon, playing the second half of a doubleheader. Currently playing well and getting on a bit of a hot streak, piling up wins will continue to be important for the Crimson Tide. Especially while playing at home.

Montana Fouts, Alabama above .500 in SEC play

Alabama is considered one of the top teams in the country, currently ranked No. 14 in the country. However, the Crimson Tide have not been able to get going in SEC play, with Saturday’s early win putting them a game over .500.

In their past five games, Alabama has been on the winning end four times, with Fouts playing a major role in the past two. She has been the winning pitcher in both and was able to go thanks to a rain delay on Friday.

However, there is still work to do against conference foes.

Thus far, Tennessee and Georgia have been the class of the conference. Alabama has already played the Lady Vols thus far, dropping a series in Knoxville. The latter of the two is not on the schedule but the two could always play in the SEC Tournament later this season.
