Tim Watts joins Andy Staples to Recap Arkansas vs Alabama, Preview Tennessee vs Alabama

Everyone remembers last season’s game in Knoxville between Alabama and Tennessee. The Vols pulled off an instant classic, sending the entire city into chaos. Neyland Stadium became a madhouse, with fans storming the field and cigars being lit. A great moment for Josh Heupel and his program, ending a long losing streak in the rivalry.

But on Saturday, it was Alabama back to their winning ways against Tennessee. A second-half shutout helped Nick Saban‘s team take home a 34-20 win and cigars were now being lit in Bryant-Denny Stadium, even by the players. It caused for some fun to be had on social media as well.

Alabama’s players went back onto the field to smoke their cigars, much like Tennessee last year. However, as the University of Alabama X account points out, the players went toward the fans instead of fans being on the field. The running back room rushed the entire length to celebrate in front of the student section.

Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams, Jam Miller, and Justice Haynes were all part of the video, running with their lit cigars. Exactly what you want to be doing on the Third Saturday in October.

Most of the Alabama players are familiar with smoking cigars, even after last season’s loss. They will be hoping a it gets back to being an annual tradition after the 15-game winning streak was broken in Knoxville. At the time, Saban had never lost to Tennessee, and everyone involved with the program had the game in mind throughout the week.

The players were not the only ones to thank the fans for showing out on Saturday. Saban went over to the student section after the game as well, thanking them. He explained the move during his postgame press conference, saying they had an impact on the game in a positive way.

“I know how much it means to our fans. The rivalry of this game, Tennessee,” Saban said on Saturday. “I also wanted to thank them because of what a great job they did. The impact that they had on the game, the atmosphere they had on the game.

“I think it kept the energy level up for our team and kept the momentum rolling in the second half for us. So it was fantastic and I wish I could thank each one of ’em personally.”
