Tua Tagovailoa critical of his preseason performance

Miami Dolphins’ second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a very solid opening performance against the Chicago Bears, but you wouldn’t know it if you listened to the former Alabama signal-caller’s post-game comments.

He was very critical of his performance, but he made several big plays in the game, including connecting on a 50-yard strike to tight end Mike Gesicki. Check out the clip below.

He finished the game completing 8 of his 12 pass attempts for 99 yards, while throwing one interception. He nearly threw another interception on his final pass attempt in the game.

His interception came when he tried to fire a pass in the middle of the end zone. He dropped back around the 22-yard line, stepped up, and tried to force the ball to tight end Adam Shaheen. Here’s the clip of the interception by Houston’s DeAndre Houston-Carson.

After the game, he was quite critical of his interception and his peformance

“I think the better question for that is what didn’t I do wrong?” he said to start his press conference. “ I thought I did alright. There are a lot of things we need to clean up offensively — with our communication, more so our execution with our plays that we were given.

“But that first time coming out with a real game-like situation and environment, I thought it was real good. Obviously, there’s a lot of things we need to clean up, but that’s what we got film for. When we get on the plane we’ll look at those plays that didn’t go the way we wanted and we’ll get those fixed.”

There’s plenty of things he can clean up from the performance, but there were plenty of positives to be taken from it, too. He made another tight window throw to Mack Hollins. Some of the credit here has to go to Hollins for coming back to the football and making the acrobatic grab. Check the clip below.

Tua Tagovailoa performance in the off-season

Tagovailoa had been drawing excellent reviews from many beat writers and members of the media for his performances this off-season.

Dolphins dealing with injuries

Many of the receivers on the Miami Dolphins’ roster are currently injured. Will Fuller is out with a foot injury. DeVante Parker missed the first week of camp while on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Then he missed all of last week and the Dolphins-Bears preseason contest. Undrafted wide receiver Preston Williams entered fall camp on the PUP list as well.

Tua will need his receivers to get healthy if the Dolphins passing attack wants to develop on field chemistry and rapport. That simply can’t happen when they are injured.
