Will Anderson picks former Alabama QB Bryce Young over 7-time NFL champion Tom Brady

Former Alabama star and future top 2023 NFL Draft choice Will Anderson joined the First Take crew on Tuesday morning to discuss a wide range of topics regarding Anderson’s time in Tuscaloosa as well as his experience with the draft process. However, it was the final bit of dialogue between Stephen A. Smith and Anderson that really made for some eye-popping headline opportunities.

Just before Anderson left the set, First Take host Molly Qerim ran through a slew of rapid fire questions but saved the most divisive one for last: Who would you rather have at quarterback, Tom Brady or Bryce Young?

Being the loyal former Crimson Tide player that he is, Anderson didn’t even hesitate before picking his QB1 over the undisputed great.

“I’m taking Bryce Young. I played with him, so…” Anderson said, his voice trailing off before Stephen A. leapt into the conversation.

“You gonna say Bryce Young over Tom Brady?” Smith barked at such blasphemy. “Tom Brady that just retired at 45 with seven Super Bowl titles? Behind a dude that hasn’t played in the NFL one game yet? Is that what you’re doing, Will? C’mon man!” Smith continued, practically screaming.

Molly tried to calm him down, but Stephen A. was still dumbfounded. “I’m just saying, c’mon now. What kinda question is that?”

Anderson stuck to his guns and said he has to be loyal to the guy that started under center for his own team. “I gotta have my boy’s back, you know what I’m saying?” he responded.

Stephen A. Smith finally composed himself and gave a more thoughtful answer rather than hollering in disbelief. He explained at almost a whisper…

“Tom Brady ’cause of resume. I think Bryce Young — I only got one concern about Bryce Young, the only question is durability because of his size. But he’s special. I like Bryce. I like Bryce.”

Theatrics aside, both Stephen A. Smith and Will Anderson appear to be big Bryce Young fans. Perhaps Anderson a little bit more so than Smith, considering he ranked him above the virtually undisputed Greatest Of All Time in terms of QBs he’d like to play alongside.

But you know what, NFL teams have to love that. So many franchises have star players on either side of the ball who butt heads or openly criticize other players. At least with Anderson, you know he’ll be ride or die with his quarterback. Definitely a loyal player, if nothing else.
