Will Reichard is officially in a class of his own. After Alabama scored its first touchdown of Saturday’s game against Arkansas, his extra point made him the SEC’s all-time scoring leader.

The attempt came after Jalen Milroe found a wide open Kobe Prentice for a 79-yard touchdown to tie things up at 6-6 in the first quarter. Reichard then made the extra point with ease to give the Crimson Tide the 7-6 lead and put himself atop the SEC’s all-time points list with 481 points.

That broke a tie with former Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson, who held the record since 2017.

Reichard has been a mainstay at Alabama since arriving on campus in 2019. He has made 85.1% of his field goal attempts during his career, including all 12 of his tries this season. In addition, he has only missed two extra points during his career — the last of which came in 2019.

Reichard initially opted to test the NFL Draft waters after the 2022 campaign, but he decided to come back to Tuscaloosa for his fifth and final season with the Crimson Tide.

His consistency is what makes him stand out, and Nick Saban had some high praise for Reichard on his radio show this week.

“He’s fantastic,” Saban said. “To have really good specialists on your team is a tremendous asset. People that you can depend on in the clutch. People don’t even realize — they talk about field goals and extra points — but kickoff and kickoff placement and putting the ball in the right place so you’re coverage patterns are most effective. And Will does all of that stuff extremely well. He’s very accurate, has a strong leg.”

There is more to Reichard than just the football field, though. Saban does not believe there is a person more dedicated, saying Reichard wants to excel at everything he does — on and off the field.

“What a great person,” Saban said. “You couldn’t find someone who is a better guy and more committed to trying to be the best he can be in everything that he does. The kind of person he is, kind of student he is.”

Alabama started off slow against Arkansas on Saturday, but started to get things going after Prentice’s touchdown. The Crimson Tide ran the “tush push” on a second-quarter quarterback sneak to extend the lead to 14-7 over the Razorbacks.
