Former Alabama quarterback Paul Tyson has decided on a transfer location, as the destination, as the soon-to-be redshirt junior announced on Twitter that he will transfer to Arizona State.

Tyson’s announcement came just five days after he announced in a Twitter post that he was transferring, as he took the time to thank Alabama coaches, fans and staff for the support. A native of Trussville, Alabama, next year will be Tyson’s fourth in college — however, after redshirting his freshman year in 2019, then receiving an extra year of eligibility for COVID-19, he will enter a new program with three years of eligibility remaining.

“I would like to start by thanking Coach Saban for giving me the opportunity to play for Alabama the past three years and to be a part of winning a national championship,” Tyson said on Twitter. “I feel so Blessed and will forever cherish the past three years! It was a lifelong dream of mine. I would also like to thank Coach O’Brien, Coach Mortenson, all of my past coaches, staff, faculty and trainers at the University of Alabama. I thank them all for their leadership, guidance, and support while helping me be a better man and quarterback.”

Tyson is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. The 6-foot-5, 228-pound quarterback was a four-star recruit via the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, making him the No. 22 quarterback in the 2019 class and the No. 13 recruit in the state of Alabama.

“I am about to graduate, and I have entered the transfer portal to continue playing football and to continue my education,” Tyson said. “With the COVID waiver, I will still have three years of eligibility, and I am excited to see what door God opens for me.”

Tyson finished the 2021 season having received garbage-time minutes in five games. He logged 10 completions in 16 attempts, good for 150 passing yards. Prior to the 2021 season, Tyson did not appear in any game action for Alabama in 2020, and in 2019 — his redshirt season — he made one appearance against Western Carolina but did not record any stats.
