Baseball can be a funny sport at times and on Sunday afternoon, we got a pretty wacky sequence for the Arkansas infielders. They were trying to catch a fly ball vs. the Murray State Racers. The ball was hit pretty much straight up in the air by the Murray State batter, with the ball landing on the pitcher’s mound. The Hogs third baseman decided to rotate over and try to catch it, but he missed and the ball dropped on the ground. So, the ball rolled to the Hogs catcher.

Then the catcher tossed the ball down the third base line, where they nailed the Murray State runner out once they tried sliding at home.

Watching the video helps to explain the weird sequence much better.

Arkansas ended up winning the game 5-3, but that’s certainly one of the stranger outs you’ll see. The Hogs officially swept with Murray State, winning on Friday, 5-1 and winning with ease on Saturday, 11-1.

On Saturday, Arkansas pitcher Brady Tygart led the way with a career-high 10 strikeouts. It was his second win of the year. Kendall Diggs also blasted his first home run of the season. He’s expected to be one of the best players in college baseball. Last year as a sophomore, he swatted 12 home runs and had a team-high 63 RBIs.

Sunday’s win over the Racers marked the Hogs 30th consecutive non-conference home weekend series victory.

Tygart finished with 10 strikeouts in just five innings of work, while allowing just three hits and one walk. Arkansas had two right-handers Will McEntire and Cooper Dossett working the final three innings after Tygart left the game. The duo combined for four strikeouts in their relief work.

Jayson Jones currently leads the Hogs in RBIs with 12. Ben McLaughlin is second on the team with 9 RBIs. Ross Lovich also leads Arkansas with a .429 batting average.

Up next for Arkansas, they’ll face off against the University of Central Arkansas Bears. That one will be played on Tuesday, March 5th. Then they’ll face off against the McNeese State Cowboys. That series will be in Fayetteville, Arkansas and they’ll play on March 8th, March 9th, and March 10th. On Friday, March 15th, the Hogs will begin their three-game series with the Missouri Tigers. All three games are set to be played in Fayetteville.
