After four years at Arkansas, veteran guard Davonte “Devo” Davis has entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Davis has been a starter in most of Arkansas’ games since he began his career there back as a freshman in 2020-21, and served as an integral piece on two Elite Eight teams in ’21 and ’22, plus last year’s ’23 Sweet 16 run.

Following a down year across the board by his standards, and a career-low points-per-game average just over five, Davis has decided to use his last season of eligibility elsewhere.

In his more successful prior three years, Davis averaged just over eight points per game as a freshman and sophomore before jumping above 10 as a junior. Obviously, this season didn’t go as well, but that was par for the course on this 2023-24 Razorback club. They just never seemed to find their footing.

Here was Davis’ own tweet announcing goodbye to Arkansas:

Davis stepped away from team during the season

Arkansas first announced Davis’ absence ahead of the team’s matchup against Kentucky on Jan. 27, stating Davis had “stepped away from the program.” After multiple meetings with head coach Eric Musselman, he triumphantly returned in Arkansas’ 78-75 win over Georgia back in February.

The Arkansas head coach also shared some loving comments towards his veteran, hoping that fans appreciate what he’s done for the program.

“You look at this success over the last three years and he’s been a big part of it,” Musselman said. “We’re finding out that it’s not easy, one, to make an NCAA Tournament. It’s not easy to make a Sweet 16 — three of them. It’s not easy to make back-to-back Elite Eights. He’s been a part of that, so hopefully everybody recognizes what he has done for the program.”

In addition to Davis, just yesterday, veteran Arkansas forward Denijay Harris once again entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Harris began his Division I college hoops career in Hattiesburg with Southern Miss, but that was after a stop at Southwest Community College, where he appeared in two games but suffered a season-ending injury before mocing on to Southern Miss, where he redshirted a season and then played three.

After four total years there, Harris ultimately made the decision to transfer up to Arkansas as part of their massive annual transfer haul. But that didn’t really work out as the Hogs struggled all year and Harris played just 49 total minutes in 2023-24. Now, he’ll hit the portal looking for a new home in his seventh season of college hoops.
