Week 5 Resume Rankings - Andy Staples

The Arkansas Razorbacks lost to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, 34-22. That didn’t stop dynamic dual threat quarterback K.J. Jefferson from further cementing his status as one of the greatest players ever to suit up in Fayetteville. He had a rough outing, only throwing one touchdown pass, but that was enough for Jefferson to pass Matt Jones for the most touchdowns responsible for in program history, with 78.

He wasn’t finished plastering his name on the record books on Saturday night. He also now has the most total yards in Arkansas football history. Check out yet another graphic from Arkansas football.

Jefferson was ranked in the On3 Top 25 quarterbacks in the country heading into Week 5. Through five games, he’s completed 85 of 125 passes (68%) for 1,050 yards, while tossing in 10 touchdowns with four interceptions. As a runner, he’s got 65 carries for 125 rushing yards and a touchdown.

In 2022, he posted another career season, despite missing two games due to injury. Jefferson completed 204 of his 300 passing attempts for 2,648 yards, while tossing 24 touchdowns and five interceptions. As a runner, the dynamic dual-threat had 158 carries for 640 yards and nine touchdowns.

On September 10th, Arkansas football posted an excellent graphic displaying a snapshot of just how remarkable Jefferson’s career has been during his time in Fayetteville. At that point in time, he already ranked in the Top 10 in school history in several categories: pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, touchdown passes, total plays, total yards (above), and touchdowns responsible for (above). Simply put, he’s peppered his name all over the record books for the Hogs. Jefferson will only continue to climb up a number of these lists.

Check out the chart below.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2021, Jefferson completed 67.3% of his passes for 2,676 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed for a team-high 664 rushing yards on 146 carries, with six scores coming on the ground. The 2,676 passing yards ranked him ninth in a single season in Arkansas football history.

He averaged 256.9 yards of total offense per game that year, ranking him sixth in the SEC in that stat category. He had a streak of 171 consecutive passes without an interception, the second-longest in school history, come to an end in the first quarter of the Razorbacks’ 24-10 win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl to cap off their 9-4 season in 2021-2022.

Simply put, it’s been a spectacular career for Jefferson in Fayetteville and he isn’t done just yet.
