Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman knows he has a good one in defensive end Jordan Domineck. The Georgia Tech transfer proved once again Saturday how valuable of an asset he is to Barry Odom’s defense while racking up seven tackles, including two sacks, versus Missouri State.

After the game, the head hog discussed the qualities that drew the Razorbacks to Domineck in the transfer portal this offseason.

“His parents, to be perfectly honest with you, his mannerisms over the phone… talking to his mom and dad, they’re classy people, and then when we got him on (campus),” Pittman said. “He was a guy that just wanted to compete in this league. There wasn’t a problem at Georgia Tech… But his parents, his family, you knew he was going to be a good kid.

“When he came in, it was a shock to him… about how we run our program, versus where he came from. That’s not a knock at Georgia Tech at all, they’re obviously different from what we do.”

In the past two seasons at Georgia Tech, Domineck had 73 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

The Lakeland, Fla., native transferred as a graduate and still has one more year of eligibility left after 2022.

Following the Razorbacks’ frustrating win over Missouri State, Arkansas is now preparing for a top-25 bout versus Texas A&M. Putting pressure on the quarterback, whether it’s Haynes King or Max Johnson, will be a major key to the game for Pittman, Domineck and the rest of the Hogs.

Pittman credits Bobby Petrino following win over Missouri State

The Razorbacks were in the midst of a nightmare on Saturday, down by 10 points to former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino and his Missouri State Bears.

Several big plays helped lift the Hogs over the hump in the fourth quarter of the game but Sam Pittman gave Petrino all the credit afterward. He went so far as to say he believed the Bears were the more prepared team on the field.

“Well, I want to congratulate Missouri State and Coach Petrino on a great game plan,” Pittman said. “He had his kids better prepared than I did. He did a wonderful job. They have a really good quarterback, we knew that coming in and man, did he make a lot of plays. We turned the ball over, twice. But when Bryce Stephens returned a punt for a touchdown, that hasn’t been done since last year.

“We’re just so fortunate to win. In games like this, if you’re not playing well, you’re just trying to fight and claw to get the win. There were several points where it looked like we weren’t going to. Our kids just kept fighting and clawing to come out with the 11-point win. it says a lot about the culture of our program and our kids. I’m really proud that we won the game, I’ll leave it at that right now.”
