Thanks to the pandemic season, any player who played in 2020 gets a bonus season of eligibility. This means that there are a lot of super seniors giving teams extra experience. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman expects that the Razorbacks will be one of those teams next season.

The question came up during a press conference, when Sam Pittman was asked about the status of several players, including Dwight McGlothern, Zach Williams, Luke Jones, Nathan Bax, and Terry Hampton among several others.

“I think on that list of guys you just said, I think the majority of them will come back,” Sam Pittman said.

“I don’t believe Luke Jones will. I think we’ve had that talk, but you went kind of quick on that, but I think the majority of the guys you just mentioned will come back. Minus Luke. Luke’s not gonna come back, but I think the rest of them will.”

After that, Sam Pittman did emphasize that Jones will be playing in Arkansas’ bowl game. That bowl game is the Liberty Bowl, where Arkansas is getting ready to take on Kansas.

Sam Pittman on damage control

Following a disappointing 2022 season, Sam Pittman explained that he feels the bowl game is going to be an opportunity to go on damage control.

“It’s fun when you’re going through like our season last year, and you’re beating LSU and you’re beating A&M. It’s fun. Those are fun. Then expectations rise, and for us this year, we lost four games by nine points and I think we disappointed everybody. We disappointed the fanbase. Obviously we were disappointed. We feel like we can possibly do some damage control if we can go win this game. We want to. Winning a bowl. There’s not a better feeling towards it. But I feel like Kansas is very similar with us,” Sam Pittman said.

“They have high hopes for their future. For them to get bold eligible, I think is obviously a huge accomplishment for their program, and I’m happy for them.”
