Birmingham (Ala.) Parker three-star cornerback Tevis Metcalf announced his commitment to Arkansas on Saturday. He chose the Razorbacks over Auburn, Colorado and Georgia Tech among others.

Metcalf is the No. 1,017 overall prospect and No. 100 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 39 player in Alabama.

“It felt good,” Metcalf told On3’s Jeremy Johnson on Feb. 16 about his visits to Arkansas. “I felt like I was at home mostly. When I went with TJ (Metcalf) on his official visit, they treated us very well. You can tell how the fans are really into it. The academics are good also.”

Choosing Arkansas will reunite the 5-foot-10, 178-pound defensive back with his brother, TJ. He signed with the Razorbacks as a three-star safety in the class of 2023.

“I’ve been looking at it like it’s home,” Metcalf told On3’s Sam Spiegelman on Jan. 10. “I’m just waiting to see after (TJ) plays and get his feedback. That could really seal the deal. The branding is there, the Walmart HQ is there. I can play with my brother.”

Metcalf continues Arkansas’ recruiting momentum

Metcalf is the fourth player in the last two days to choose head coach Sam Pittman and his staff. Pine Bluff (Ark.) Wilbur D. Mills four-star defensive lineman Charleston Collins, Pine Bluff (Ark.) four-star athlete Courtney Crutchfield and Aledo (Texas) three-star cornerback Jaden Allen are the others.

Following Metcalf’s commitment, the Razorbacks’ 2024 recruiting class is still No. 15 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 8 in the SEC. It is led by Collins, On3’s No. 1 player in Arkansas.

Arkansas’ group contains five more players. They are Leeds (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Kavion Henderson, Ocean Springs (Miss.) St. Martin four-star wide receiver Noreel White, Batesville (Miss.) South Panola four-star linebacker Julius Pope, Montgomery (Ala.) St. James School four-star quarterback KJ Jackson and Memphis (Tenn.) Memphis University School three-star defensive lineman Dion Stutts.

“(Pittman’s) building something amazing,” Collins told On3’s Chad Simmons on April 21. “In the next two or three years, I know for a fact that everybody will see it. From the family-type vibe to the players being dedicated and happy to be there, he’s a great dude.”

“He’s an amazing guy, he’s funny,” he added. “But when it’s time to be about business, he’s about his business. He’ll joke around with you, play with you, take care of your friends and family.”
